Did you get any cheap, cool music stocking stuffers?

I buy my own stocking stuffers. Last year I got myself a nice harmonica. Even nice harmonicas are cheap compared to what we pay for keyboards. This year I got myself a frivolous sample set of an instrument I had never heard of but wanted when I saw it. The Skiddaw Stones Kontakt/EXS + Live Pack from SonicCouture. I don't know how useful it will be but it was interesting, and half price. :)

Anyone else get anything interesting and cheap?

So have you tried it out?

Yeah. It's surprisingly loud, has a usable tone control on the amp, and the presets aren't bad for a $13 shirt. The action is a little spongey. Oh wait, that's my chest.

I was on holidays in California with the family. Swung by Recycled Records on Haight in SF as well as Rasputin and Amoeba on Telegraph in Berkley today and picked up a few albums:

-Parliament - Chocolate City (Vinyl)

-Stevie Wonder - Songs in the Key of Life (Vinyl)

-MF Doom - Unexpected Guests (CD)

-The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??! (CD)

-Goodie Mob - Soul Food (CD)

-Kanye West - Late Registration (CD)

-Rjd2 - Deadringer (CD)

-Jacky Terrasson - Push (CD)

So happy to finally find a non-hipsterfest, reasonably priced, well-stocked record store. Or three. :thu:

While a little big for a stocking stuffer, I got a Soundcraft Notepad 124. Nice little mixer. Has 4 standard channels with XLR & 1/4" balanced inputs, with trim, aux send, 3 band EQ, and level. Then there are 4 stereo pairs that don't have the EQ. Single Aux buss. Tape I/O. MF has it for $70. I'm using it with my computer and the boards set up in the office for recording.

There were a couple things I bought for myself, and this was the final piece. I upgraded to Sonar X1 Producer, and replaced the SoundBlaster in my computer with an M-Audio Audiophile card. Has stereo RCA ins and outs, digital I/O, and on-board MIDI. I was having a MIDI latency issue through USB, and this has resolved that. I connected the analog Input and Output to the Soundcraft, and now I just have to start a new project in Sonar, arm the track, hit record, and start playing to capture any ideas that come.

I'm just using my JBL Computer Speakers for monitoring, but I've noticed that the Souncraft adds some warmth that I really like

"In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome.

So God helped him and created woman.

Now everybody's got the blues."

- A t-shirt with a Minimoog D on it \m/

- 3 jazz books (Ligon, LaVerne, and some Hal Leonard transcriptions)

And, not cheap but worth a mention... the wife got me CS80V, after hearing me go on about the CS80 and knowing I won't be hitting eBay for one of those any time soon. :D

I make software noises.

Just got mine via UPS.

Review:

Cool retro design.

8-note polyphonic keyboard.

Lightweight, & battery operated. (No X-stand needed!)

Choose between 5 different sounds.

Amplifier has tone and volume controls w/ line out.

Overall it's more than just a great toy. I'm looking forward to wearing it during a few concerts (especially outdoors) this year.
