mikecorbett
Just came across this, its frickkin awesome. What I love is the expressions on both of their faces, they are having so much fun and you can tell they are kind of thinking " Holy crap, there a guy sitting across the stage from me with a fully loaded B3 and he can plaaaaayyy...." it must be a fairly surreal experience for them to do that. Enjoy! [video:youtube] We are all slave's to our brain chemistry!

Meisenhower
Yeah, this is some of the greatest 4:41 minutes of Hammond playing you'll ever see. I should buy the DVD, for as often as I look at this clip. That tone on the Doc's Hammond/Leslie combo is such a part of his overall sound. The last time I saw him (earlier this year), he played a beautiful red mahogany 1967 red cap B3 and matching 142, and he loved it, and when I talked to him after his set, he said "he dug that box because it had so much air, in there . . . . man." I had the good fortune to play the same combo a few weeks after he did and it was just even more awesome to play, than it was to listen to. SK
Fun to listen to for "chops" and organ sounds - I like Joey's lines and Lonnie's sound. Lonnie mixes the first A section tag up with the second A at 3:08... no biggie. CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/stevekessler
Jim Alfredson
Lonnie is always so melodic and understated. I love that. Keep it greazy! B3tles - Soul Jazz THEO - Prog Rock
SK
Yeah, I prefer a melodic approach for that song, and Lonnie is a warm player. CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/stevekessler

Joe Muscara
Here's the whole episode. Enjoy it while it lasts. Lonnie's version of Caravan is sick. dazzjazz
The thing about Lonnie's playing is there ALWAYS more music coming out of his hands than you can see evidence for - that's why he's my favourite. www.dazzjazz.com PhD in Jazz Organ Improvisation. Meisenhower
Do you guys have recommendations for Lonnie Smith albums? Two of my "later" favorite albums from "The Doc" are: Jungle Soul (2006) and Too Damn Hot (2004). Early stuff like Think (1968) and Live from Club Mozambique (1970) and The Turbanator (he also plays some piano on this album) and Afro Blue are also really good. I especially like his version of Freedom Jazz Dance on Jungle Soul. v8pete
Wynton Kelly "Someday My Prince Will Come" (uptempo solo starts at 1:00) [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ce-V3oSNvCI One of my absolute favourite tracks. Wynton really could make the piano sing - doesn't get better than that. I was hooked on his playing when I heard "Dark Eyes" about 25 years ago! Meisenhower
Personally, I always considered this version of Someday My Prince Will Come as the "definitive" piano version for me. v8pete
There's a great version of Bill playing it live on an album which I think was called Sunday at the Villiage Vanguard - haven't heard it in some years, but amazing stuff!
Meisenhower
There's a great version of Bill playing it live on an album which I think was called Sunday at the Villiage Vanguard - haven't heard it in some years, but amazing stuff! I think the live recording you're thinking of is "Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival" from 1968 with Eddie Gomez and Jack DeJohnette. Another magical rendition of this tune! I don't recall there being a Bill Evans Village Vanguard recording of Someday My Prince Will Come ever released.
