stillplaying
Buying more personal monitors for little folk gatherings (it's come to that). Got two Roland CM-30s that I've been giving out to instrumentalists (which they seem to like). I know it's rated at 30 watts and the Mackie SRM is 150 watts - and the ohm thing doesn't tell the full story here either. Which is louder? I heard one of the Mackies last year - didn't appear to be much different in volume than the Roland. BTW - thinking of picking up another SRM 150 rather than a third CM-30 (which are great) as it has phantom power. Many thanks in advance to anyone who can decipher the true SPLs ratings. AnotherScott
For a 30 watt amp to play as loud as a 150 watt amp (assuming even that they measured power the same way), the speaker would have to be about 7 or 8 db more efficient... not impossible, but not likely. Roland doesn't supply an SPL spec on the system (nor does either company spec the efficiency of their integrated speaker, which is not surprising), so all you could do to be certain is try them out next to each other, or talk to someone who has. But I know where I'd put my money if I were a betting man... Maybe this is the best place for a shameless plug! Our now not-so-new new video at https://youtu.be/3ZRC3b4p4EI is a 40 minute adaptation of T. S. Eliot's "Prufrock" - check it out! And hopefully I'll have something new here this year. ;-)
stillplaying
Thanks for the reply. Read the SOS review of the SRM150s by Paul White (whom I rate highly). He was impressed at the volume. Mentioned a beer tent gig or something where one side of their PA went down and the SRM150 did an ok job at holding the fort on that side. Anyone able to try them side by side? I'm the piano player "off of" Borrowed Books.
