StudioLogic Numa Organ Tech support?

engineerjoel

Recommended Posts

The Studiologic website does not seem to show any type of contact info for a Techsupport office. Even though, there is link called "Support", the page that comes up doesn't have an phone or email tech support info.

Does anyone know how to contact Studiologic support?

Thanks

I needed some support back in March after buying my Numa Organ.

They are distributed in the US through American Music and Sound. This (see below) is the person I contacted back at that time.

What's the problem?

Two Questions I have:

1. What's the deal with the random subtle "pitch bending" of the notes? is there an update to fix this? You can really hear this subtle drop-in-pitch on random notes when the Brake is ON or when the Rotor is in the OFF mode. Turning on the Rotor seems to "hide or mask" this bug..so you really don't hear it very clearly.

2. When the Fader Dynamic Touch button is in the "blinking" mode, the Numa becomes a midi controller as well as playing the internal organ sounds at the same time. And when you accidently play notes on the Organ's Preset Keys (the black keys), this sends unwanted patch change's to the Numa Organ as well the midi'ed sound module and also causes notes to stick on the Midi'ed sound source. What's the work around to stop this?

That was an early bug... You can hear it on one of the Joey D. demos...

I have never had a pitch bending issue on mine. Yes, it was evident in the early video demo.

I have not used mine as a MIDI controller, so I don't know about the dual function issue. To me, the organ OS wants to see the reverse color keys as presets, as opposed to making it a 73 key.

I would think it's one use or the other.

@RGH Yes, thanks for the info. This morning I did email American Music. No reply from anyone at American Music yet.

Although, I was able to locate a "Firmware 2.0" download for the Numa Organ from the Studiologic website. I wonder if this is the current bug fix. I have no idea what firmware is running on the Numa I have. Does anyone know how to check the firmware?

Thanks

When I discovered my Numa Organ had that pitch warble bug, I ended up receiving the update files directly from Fatar in Italy. I know these files were eventually posted online but I never bothered to look for them.

Looking at the Studiologic site, it looks like the update you want in order to make the pitch problem go away is located under the file titled: Numa Organ Operating System.

In any event, I still have the loader files and would be happy to email them if you wish. You can PM me.

EDIT: The update file is also posted in the Files section of the Clonewheel Yahoo Group!!

Hey Brutha aL. The update worked, the BUG is dead and the Numa's rockin' now! Incredible! Thank you for your support. You are the MAN! I hope I can return the favor someday.

To everyone out there in organ clone land.. Numa + Vent + (2) QSC K10 = AWESOME.

Engineerjoel,

I had a NUMA for a month (6 months ago) and encountered the same issues as you mention.. as well as some additional problems (lockups) which caused me to return it. I loved the sound of the NUMA!!! and it hurt me to have to replace it, and I actually might have simply asked for a replacement rather than asking for my money back if the tech support and the website was better.. At the time there was no tech support, you couldn't find the OS update, the documentation was terrible. The Fatar dynamic touch button blinking mode isn't even documented, and for me this mode which is both a controller AND an organ was the most important mode of all!! I couldn't get an answer as to how I could continue to switch the leslie off/on using the mod wheel without sending modwheel data to my external synth module.. blah blah blah.. It hurt me to send it back but I did. I loved the NUMA sound and feel.. I hope you have better luck.. sounds like a lot of the bugs are fixed, but I'm not sure the tech support or documentation problems are fixed??

Here are some definitive numbers for Numa organ support-

For technical issues including warranty service

1-800-431- 2609 extension 2488 ask for Sandy Aganant .... she has been very helpful to me

The person in charge of USA sales is Donovan Stark, at the the above toll free number extension 3719

These people are a part of American Music and Sound who besides Studiologic also handle Nord , Kurzweil and many others .

I wish they were more informed regarding OS updates and loading the different Key B models into the Numa, but I intend to bug them about that when I see them at NAMM in a couple of weeks.

What I'd love to see is a Numa Organ uploader program for Mac. I was sweating bullets using my work computer to get rid of the pitch warble bug, and I don't want to repeat the experience to load the other tonewheel set(s). It took me multiple trips to the office to get my computer to load the proper drivers (of course, 95% of the problem was user error), but, I'm so much more comfortable with my Mac!@!!

C'mon Studiologic, get with the program!

@ Craig.....Yes, I too hate the fact that the Mod-Wheel controls both the Internal Leslie Sim Speed AND modulation to external synths at the same time. {Note: also the footswitch both internal Leslie speed AND Sustain for external synths.}

The ($449) work-around for this was to NOT use the Numa's internal leslie-sim (turn it OFF) and exclusively use the Neo Vent as the leslie-sim. Now, I can freely use the Mod-Wheel for External Midi Modulation control and the Sustain Pedal to control sustain to Midi'ed synths without upsetting the Numa.

Besides the "modulation bug" that is now fixed, there does not seem to be any other issues with the Numa. It really happy, pleased with the Numa.

Okay I just Midi'ed the NUMA (OUT) to the Midi I (IN) of my Yamaha S80 and just realized that all the unconventional controls on the NUMA (such as Draw Bars, Buttons and Knobs) are sending out CC messages. And as any changes I make...say with the Numa's DrawBars are changing parameters on the S80. The same thing happens when turning on/off any of the Numa's Percussion buttons. Also, the Numa's volume knob is acting as a Master Volume control for the S80.

Hey LX88, if/when you go to NAMM this year, please drop by the Studiologic booth and request an OS update to be able to assign/unassign (learn/Unlearn) CC messages on the Numa.

Thanks

Engineerjoel,

Isn't what you really want the ability to turn transmission of all/selected CC messages on/off? If anyone is talking to Studiologic at NAMM this year there's a lot more that needs to be updated on the NUMA, including documentation of the flashing Fatar Dynamic touch mode, the ability to turn transmission of cc and program change info off, and all the hidden functions in the OS..

By the way, you should be able to turn this off in your Yamaha S80.. tell it not to receive cc and program change messages.. This is one of the first things I do when ever I connect midi devices is to stop them from sending program changes and cc messages to to each other, because it always has unpredictable results.

What you describe doesn´t require a update at all because that´s how MIDI works,- ideally, the controler sends ALL the MIDI info from is physical controllers over MIDI-Out.

It´s necessary if you use a MIDI instrument w/ a sequencer, the instrument in MIDI Local Off mode.

This also rules using a MIDI controller instrument in Local Off mode as a masterkeyboard,- which is a feature of the NUMA Organ,- and HAVE to control the NUMA organ parameters over MIDI (loopback) then,- losing fast keyboard triggering in that mode of course.

You have to use the MIDI filters in the to NUMA Organ MIDI-Out connected MIDI device, or use a sparate MIDI filter device or a matrix switcher offering MIDI filtering at it´s MIDI inputs between NUMA and MIDI slave device if the connected device doesn´t offer the MIDI filter(s).

@Al I just found an ole-school used rackmount Yamaha MEP-4 Midi Event Processor. I'll use the MEP-4 to "filter" out any unwanted CC Messages coming from the Numa.

Wow, another piece of gear in the chain and more cables.

Yep, but it´s the right one because it works.

MEP-4 can do a lot other tools can´t if you´re familiar w/ HEX.

A bit cumbersome to program though.

I also use a discontinued piece of gear for all my MIDI, maybe a decade younger,- Miditemp PMM88E.

The people that represent the Numa at NAMM probably have very little to do with Studiologic. Any changes would have to happen in Italy.... the distributors at Ammerican Music and Sound have about as much to do with changes as they do with Nord and Kurzweil.

It is unfortunate but with the Numa, what you see is what you get. It's somewhat miraculous that we have the Key B engine in that package at all.

I will mention the CC message thing to a few of the people and see if I get anywhere. I have been urging them to simplify the Numa organ loader, or to make the directions more clear so that we can download the different organ models.
