stillplaying
I know, I know, I should believe but sitting here in a storm in Wintry Perthshire I'm thinking bad thoughts and the consequences are ... no presents if I think the first thought another dead Disney fairy if I voice the second thought and ...well, I suppose somewhere in the world a VST host dies. You know, Peter Pan was written by a bloke from up the road fron here in Kirriemuir. Kirriemuir, the Scottish town that nurtured a young boy and turned him into AC/DC's front man. Maybe there is some magic in the air. I want a Musebox. I do believe in vapourware, I do, I do , I do ... I'm the piano player "off of" Borrowed Books. CEB
Peavey either can't figure it out or they don't have the resources to put on the project to hit the release dates. I'm also curious what sort of 3rd party support they will be able to muster for the Musebox. It is a closed platform thus will not load user installable plugins. But the demo of that 800MB piano sure sounded nice. I was excited about the product but I no longer think I will be in line for one. Maybe in 2013 or 2014 if the product is not a flop. They finally officially move the Fall 2011 target date to Spring 2012. "It doesn't have to be difficult to be cool" - Mitch Towne "A great musician can bring tears to your eyes!!! stillplaying
Going way back in time That's the stuff I like - that and Back In Black (Brian). Highway to Hell and before - Bon was at the helm. I also prefer Genesis with Peter Gabriel. Three Sides Live is still a cracking album (with Phil) but he's doing all the Peter stuff. Get into that time machine of yours and check out the Bon Scott years - or go to a gig. They'll do a few off whatever their new album is then it's back to the Back In Black album (Brian) and quickly on to all of the big tunes that we know and love - Bon Scott tunes. Timelord
Bon Scott died over 30 years ago, Brian is a much better lead man, at least he stays sober!! I agree about Peter Gabriel, those were the glory years for Genesis, their stuff with Phil is very 'hit and miss' regarding quality.

TechEverlasting
Why not just get a Receptor? Isn't the Musebox just going to be a stripped down Receptor (if it ever actually materializes)? Receptors actually do exist, they work and they are readily available used.

Bill W
What I'm really holding out for is SM Pro Audio's V-Rack. Hasn't it been vaporware longer than the MuseBox? Yes, I believe you are right. Based on its specs and the fact that you don't need specialized installers to get plugins running on it, the V-Rack seems like it would be the perfect alternative to the Musebox and Receptors. I liked the V-Machine, but it's underpowered and the outputs are -10dB. I had one for a year or so and I had all kinds of stuff running on that thing. burningbusch
From Muse Research: MuseBox is finally on its way to market. MuseBox is an exceptionally easy-to-use half-rack, 2U instrument and effects processor that is being manufactured and distributed by Peavey Electronics. To that end, Peavey recently had a big sales training in anticipation of its official launch at NAMM, and as a testament to how easy to use the product is, at the end of the presentation the room broke out in a spontaneous jam with the sales staff. Since you are probably reading this because you own a RECEPTOR, it is useful to understand the differences between RECEPTOR and MuseBox. First off, MuseBox is designed to be a complete "meat and potatoes" solution for most keyboardists, guitarists, and vocalists, and heavily emphasizes the presets that have been created for the resident software inside. It boasts a comprehensive collection of sounds featuring UVI player-based MusePlayer from Universons, as well as virtual instruments from AAS, Camel Audio, ForeFront, U-he, and others. Each preset has been meticulously crafted by Muse's Kevin Bryson and noted sound-designer Chris Martirano (of Synthogy and Kurzweil fame). Even with an amazing 800MB piano and a 200 MB electric piano that blows the socks off any workstation keyboard sound you might have played, MuseBox also takes its talents into the world of Guitars and Vocals with ReValver amp modeling, MuVoice Lite vocal processing, as well as awesome reverb and signal processing with WaveArts Masterverb 4 and TrackPlug4. And all of these presets are available with a simple twist of a knob and push of a button. However, rest assured that MuseBox won't replace your beloved Receptor, since the processor and storage limitations in Receptor's lil' bro make it impossible to run virtual instruments like Ivory, Omnisphere, or Komplete 8. And although MuseBox supports adding additional software via CF card, it can't run the hundreds of plug-ins that work on the RECEPTOR. And when you consider RECEPTOR's multi-channel I/O, digital I/O features like Smart Snapshots, and road-proven rack-mount design, we think you'll see MuseBox as a really likable companion to your Receptor, not a replacement. There's a ton of good stuff about MuseBox, and if you're like most people who've checked it out, you'll want one for yourself. However, its not threat to RECEPTOR's dominance as the best place to run virtual instruments and effects! ----- The real power, for me at least, of a computer-based system (or Receptor) is that you can completely customize it to your needs using the best-of-the-best in the software world. This does not appear to be the direction of the MuseBox. Busch.
Tobias Åslund
I would say they need to work on their marketing skills... Right now it seems like a preset piano module with ability to process your guitar as well, and as you say - nothing like a real receptor. Let's hope at least the pianos are just as great as they say, but the sentence saying it's not powerful enough to run Ivory, makes you wonder. Anyway - if it sounds good and the price is right it still might sell. After all, the market has been short of piano modules since the GEM RPX. Too much stuff, too little time, too few gigs, should spend more time practicing...! 🙄 main instruments: Nord Stage 3 compact, Yamaha CP88, Kurzweil PC4, Viscount KeyB Legend Live
