Talk about an "app" for your iPad!:rawk:

Talk about an improved display and controls for your multi-effects stomper!:rawk:

http://www.thestringnetwork.com/images/smilies/icon_e_geek.gif I'm sure that I could put one of these to VERY good use... !

I hope that other makers come out with MFX/DAW units that similarly use an iPad (and further such computers as they come down the pike); perhaps including superior on-board recording and looping capabilities, as well as more diverse and esoteric effects, SERIOUSLY deep-editing and signal-path arranging...

lightbulb.gif Sweetwater Sound has an iPad 2/iPB-10 bundle, free shipping, no tax...

Love the idea, but adding in the price of an iPad kind of kills it for me. I'm writing this on an iBook G4 I got for $150 a while back - yes, I'm poor AND I'm cheap.

I dunno - I can see a cowboy boot takin' out that screen in no time,.....

Not on my gig! LOL

:D nor mine! But the concern for unforseen crap happening when an iPad gets treated like band gear is real.

Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!

lightbulb.gif Y' know, with or without an iPad in the picture, a pedalboard with a rollbar might not be a bad idea... :thu::cool:

Though I can't help but think of that scene in Family Guy where Peter has just launched himself from a cannon or the like and it cuts to a room full of set-up dominoes where a guy is saying, "I'll just place this priceless Fabergé egg in the center right next to my newborn hemophiliac baby..." :freak::facepalm::D

The iPB-10 is $500 at MF, and I just saw an ad for the iPad at around the same price, so the buy-in on this system is $1000. For that money, I'd probably get a Roland GR-55, or one of the new Line 6 rigs, and have some change left over.

Actually, I think that the price Includes the iPad, because the version with the iPad2 is $1k.

Sweetwater Sound's iPad 2/iPB-10 bundle is $998.95, with free shipping, no tax, free 2 year warranty and lifetime tech-support.

To properly compare the DigiTech iPB-10, Roland GR-55, and any current Line 6 rigs, I'd have to do a head-to-head comparison putting some of my pedals in front of each one, going through a stereo PA (and with my own tube-amp in parallel to the modeler/multi-fx) with a drummer, bassist, vocals, and maybe even another guitarist. Being able to cut through AND sit well and smoothly in the live mix would be paramount.

But forgot to add there's a version with just an iPad for half that price, hence my conclusion.

You mean a version with just an iPB-10, to add your own iPad to?

I dont think so. Compare:

With

http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iPB10iPad16

Unless I'm misreading this, the cheaper one is using an older iPad, the other is using an entry-level iPad2. That by itself is enough to explain the price difference.

You're right, that would be the best way to do a real-world comparison. For me, part of the issue is that I'm very familiar with Boss/Roland gear, and I've done some programming on Line 6 gear for some of my friends - I'm also skeptical of any system that depends on yet another system to run in tandem. In this case, if anything happens to your iPad, your whole pedalboard is down. I also have to wonder how the iPad is going to put up with the kind of abuse stompboxes endure regularly. I'm not just thinking of flying boots and spilled beer, but power surges, or current drops, as the case may be.

Anyhow, that's just me - the GUI on the iPB-10 looks amazing, and I'm sure it sounds very cool. I still think it would be very useful if you could have the pedalboard module on the floor, and put the iPad up on a music stand or desktop for quick-change programming. If anyone does grab one, I'd love to hear it.

I looked over both ads, and there was nothing in the copy on the $499 model to suggest an iPad came with it, although I may be mistaken. The $998 model comes bundled with a 16Gb iPad, which is the entry-level $500 model - there's also a 32 and 64. If Sweetwater really is selling the bundle at $500, it would be foolish to pass it up, especially if you were waiting for an iPad anyhow.

Well, in the ad for the cheaper one, you have this language:

"The DigiTech iPB-10 programmable pedalboard has a large (10.1") display with a real-time view of your entire rig, and it is affectionately known as an iPad."

And

"Use you iPad to create, store and save amp and pedal setups

Works via the free iPB-Nexus app

Digitech quality and tone

Save hundreds of rigs to your iPad"

I'm reading that as saying the entry-level version ships with a 1st gen iPad. Especially since there's no detail about how it could work without one. No app...no screen.

Rather than have it seem like I'm just trying to have an argument with someone whom I respect, I went and called Sweetwater's 800 number, and no, the $500 model doesn't come with an iPad. I would agree, some of the wording in that copy is ambiguous, at best, but the numbers just didn't add up.
