jeremy c
Mr. Brooks was one of my earliest influences. He was the first studio player that I noticed....his name kept popping up on various records I owned and I studied his parts carefully. I like his story and his warm, self-effacing personality. Free download of my cd!.
Russkull
Fascinating. I'd never heard of Harvey Brooks - just another reason I like this forum. Also, I have a lot of work to do, because if the only instructions given were "This is in C7 - go!" I'd be in trouble... Big Daddy from Motown
I've always liked Harvey, he played on some great records.
Bottom End
I love these kind of documentaries. "I do what I do", classic. "Call me what instrument you will, though you can fret me, yet you cannot play upon me.'-Hamlet Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song. That's probably on of Miles' least cryptic pieces of musical advice too! http://philwbass.com
Eric Iverson
I loved Harvey's lines on the Electric Flag's "Long Time Comin'" album. He was seriously underrated by the general public, but of course his fellow musicians were aware that he could play. But if you want mass acclaim, don't play bass, anyway, LOL!
