Cool Casio Previa keyboard bug(s)

It's probably only cool to programming nerds like me... as a pianist it's slightly annoying. Fun to describe, though...

A couple of years ago, I bought a Casio Previa (PX410-R) to leave at our place in Mexico for my son and I to practice on. Today, I was practicing salsa type stuff with a lot of 10ths in LH. I was working thru the different keys and suddenly there were a crapload of loud clams as I passed through the key of C... happened again after I worked through the other keys so I stopped and played the LH chord again.

Sure enough, the 1-5-10 chord based at the C2 sounded like crap. Playing this chord at *any* velocity caused Ab (1-5-b6-10) to sound at maximum velocity. If I roll the chord up or down it doesn't happen. If I play C(1-5) and add 10th or play C(5-10) and add root, the Ab sounds at maximum velocity... usually just once, but sometimes it will keep hammering on the Ab randomly a few more times until I release one of the notes. If I play C(1-10) and add 5 the Ab sounds at the same velocity as the 5... not so bad, but still wrong.

Same problem occurs based on the low G... nowhere else that I found.

Fortunately, LH 1-5-10 at C2 or G1 is a pretty easy thing to avoid in almost every key and musical style.

I don't know if the problem is a bug in the software or maybe a fault that happened later... it's really humid down here in the summer.

Anyways, if anybody has a Casio Previa 410R, give it a shot.

... back to practicing.

Oh yeah, while I'm at it...

My Previa has a slight delay between playing a dense chord and hearing the sound when some the 'DSP' effects are enabled (most of the preset patches)... perhaps up to a 10/th second depending on amount of notes in the chord. My son plays classical music and some composers (like Rachmaninoff) involve a lot of big chords... he *hated* the keyboard until we discovered that the problem goes away when the DSP effects are disabled. YMMV.

I been Sven'd on a typo.

I always just thought of the stupid thing as a Casio. I actually didn't know the keyboard was a Privia until I walked over to it while I was typing the first post.

Also... Privia is a dumb name. Previa, however has a touch of class.

My other keyboard is a Nerd Stage. :rawk:

Actually, a typo is misspelling it once. 3 times in the same post is not knowing what you own. ;):rawk:

Damn you, Sven!

I thought exactly that after I wrote that... and I was too lazy to change it.

I admitted that I didn't know what I owned already... now I should go back and edit the original post so it looks like a typo.
