jaybass58 Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 anybody gotten their hands on a dean spyder or the other entwistle basses yet???..I play in a who tribute band and a guy from dean offered an endorsement deal, after seeing a gig...
b5pilot Posted March 12, 2011 Posted March 12, 2011 Welcome and congrats on the endorsement. Sorry, I have not tried the new Entwistle basses so I can't say. I haven't even seen them around my area yet. Lydian mode? The only mode I know has the words "pie ala" in front of it. http://www.myspace.com/theeldoradosband
jeremy c Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Congrats! Playing in Who tribute band sounds like a very challenging gig and you must be one heck of a player! Free download of my cd!.
TimR Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 No. Being pedantic it's a Dean Spider. A Dean Spyder is the car that James Dean crashed. Make sure you get it right on your CD sleeve Welcome to the forum, and good luck with the endorsement. Feel the groove internally within your own creativity. - fingertalkin

Make sure you get it right on your CD sleeve Not to pick nits, but I believe that was a Porche, not a Dean... Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.

You get my point. Feel the groove internally within your own creativity. - fingertalkin
kenfxj Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Jan Berry of Jan & Dean nearly bought it crashing his Corvette. It was made by Chevrolet, not Dean. Push the button Frank.
kenfxj Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Not really sure how helpful that was... Push the button Frank.
jeremy c Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 What's the name of this Who tribute band? There sure are a lot of good possibilities: The High Numbers (for serious fans of the Who) Boris and the Spiders (for bass players)(and perfect for that Spyder bass) The Magic Bus The Pinball Wizards Free download of my cd!.
Cthulhu Fhtagn Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 I think I liked the thread better when it was hi-jacked. Ph'nglui mglw'nafh Cthulhu R'lyeh wgah'nagl fhtagn
kenfxj Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 From what I understand Dean is only making 25 of the Spyders worldwide. I can't imagine what they'll charge for them. Maybe more than the Alembic??? The Hybrids (Fenderbird-ish model) look cool but I don't know of anyone selling them yet, internet OR brick-and-mortar. Push the button Frank.

EddiePlaysBass Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Teenage Wasteland? I like it "I'm a work in progress." Micky Barnes The Ross Brown Shirt World Tour
kenfxj Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 There was a Who tribute band about 25 years ago named Dr. Jimmy. Seeker Sparks Success Story Squeezebox Sister Disco Smash The Mirror Slip Kid Substitute Silas Stingy And that's just the S's. Push the button Frank.

The Hybrids (Fenderbird-ish model) look cool but I don't know of anyone selling them yet, internet OR brick-and-mortar. Someone who has had a chance to play them has mentioned that the street price on the Spider was $4500 while the USA Hybrid was $1200, and the Hybrid standard was $600-$700. Fretless Bass: (n) A manually-operated pitch approximator.
abemo Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 The Whom If the bass is a' rocking, HELL YEAH COME KNOCKIN! www.myspace.com/gritthitter
picker Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I found THIS on the Dean website. The Spyder looks cool, but the hybrids look neat too. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
kenfxj Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Are those decal webs instead of inlay on that $4500 bass? I don't know if there are many bigger Entwistle fans than me. If I was gonna spend over 4K on a Spyder bass I'd rather suck it up, get a loan if I had to, and get the Alembic for double that. It's like spending big money on a Lexus. Beautiful car, runs great, very luxurious. Then you're at a stop light and a guy in a Mercedes pulls up next to you and you say "Yeah. I bought a real expensive Toyota". Push the button Frank.
jeremy c Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Are those decal webs instead of inlay on that $4500 bass? Padauk "Black Widow" Inlays Free download of my cd!.
b5pilot Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Are those decal webs instead of inlay on that $4500 bass? The description says paduk web, covers and logo so I have to assume they are inlays. If I was going to spend $4500 why not go big and go for the Alembic or the Warwick Buzzard bass. Still unless I was in a tribute band like the OP I probably wouldn't get any of them. I would think people, especially Who fans, would expect that if you have a bass like that you better bring it like the Ox did or you're just a wanna be. Didn't we have a thread about these basses a while back? Lydian mode? The only mode I know has the words "pie ala" in front of it. http://www.myspace.com/theeldoradosband
kenfxj Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Sterling silver trumps paduk. LED's on the Dean neck? Push the button Frank.
SteveC Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I just can't get past that headstock. It's like a Flying V on the head of your bass.
picker Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 anybody gotten their hands on a dean spyder or the other entwistle basses yet???..I play in a who tribute band and a guy from dean offered an endorsement deal, after seeing a gig... IF they are offering you a Spyder, snatch that sucker up! A limited run of 25 means it's gonna be worth something one day. You must rock exceedingly much for them to offer one of those as an endorsement. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Bottom End Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 Never look a gift horse in the mouth; free is good, and congratulations on the endorsement deal. Soon we'll see you in an ad in BP. "Call me what instrument you will, though you can fret me, yet you cannot play upon me.'-Hamlet Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song.
