alby Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Hi all, I have a Yamaha P90 that I have owned for 7 years. Up to 14 months ago I gigged with it every Friday night for a period of 3 years. During the period that I gigged with it, there has been no problems with it at all. A few months ago I started gigging again and noticed one key is now sticking. So it has increased resistance to pressing the key and also the key is slow to rise up again. During the break in gigging the keyboard was either stored in the gig bag, standing on one end in the garage, or in the music room ready to play. Has anyone had this problem, and is it fixable by opening up myself or does it need to be serviced? Regards Alby
alby Posted July 13, 2011 Author Posted July 13, 2011 Well after an underwhelming response to this post, in desperation I rang a real Yamaha Service Representative, who after giving him my keyboard serial number told me that I was entitled to a new keybed from Yamaha! This is despite the keyboard being over 6 years old. He came out replaced the keybed for just the cost of the call out and labour and all is well. Apparently there has been a manufacturing fault with the model of the keybed, and Yamaha has been providing replacement keybeds as part of good will. It goes to show that you can't find all the info you need on the internet.
The Real MC Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 I have owned my P90 since 2005 and the only time a key got stuck was when a guitar pick fell between the keys.
area51recording Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Yamaha had a known issue w/some of their keybeds a while back. I had the keybed on my S90 replaced for free as well, and it was well out of warranty....
Sven Golly Posted July 13, 2011 Posted July 13, 2011 Well after an underwhelming response to this post, in desperation I rang a real Yamaha Service Representative Sorry, but you posted to the forum before contacting an authorized Yamaha Service center? If you had a problem with your car, would you take it to the dealer, or post about it in a forum? Fail.

Sometimes you can find a cheap reliable fix that does not void the warranty such as a cleanout or other routine maintenance. PCLinuxOS user
jpst Posted July 15, 2011 Posted July 15, 2011 Occasional reader here finally getting round to first post! I've had one "slow key" issue with my P90, and I found, upon opening it up, much surplus white grease, in blobs, under or near other keys. So I raided some of this, took the offending key out & applied it to the sides. Job done; it's been fine ever since. PX-5S, 2xRCF TT08, SV-1RV 88, 2xMSR100, rhodes, clav, wz200a, yam C3 piano

Sven seems to be pretty quick off the mark to be critical.
