Dave Ferris Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 I've heard Yana play some ridiculous Messiaen piece before at Colburn, she has some serious chops. Maybe she'll play the Zipper's Fazioli. https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709 2005 NY Steinway D Yamaha AvantGrand N3X, CP88, P515
Sundown Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 For twenty grand, you can have the real thing... I just don't see a market for it, outside of a well-funded venue that doesn't want to deal with tuning and maintenance. But if they're well funded, tuning and maintenance won't be an issue. Sundown Finished: Gateway, The Jupiter Bluff, Condensation, Apogee Working on: Driven Away, Backscatter, Eighties Crime Thriller Main axes: Kawai MP11 and Kurz PC361 DAW Platform: Cubase

SK Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I just don't see a market for it, outside of a well-funded venue that doesn't want to deal with tuning and maintenance. Well, like the AvantGrand, that would be the selling point, and the recording capabilities. I'd like to see these sold to clubs/restaurants that have crappy, old baby grands, like the one I'll play tomorrow night. Of course, that's unlikely. The old joke (or possible true story) goes: musician: "Is your piano tuned?" Club owner: "No, but we just had it painted last week." CD: http://www.cdbaby.com/cd/stevekessler
Joe Muscara Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Haven't most of the Roland digital grands been in the five-figure range? Crazy item, but it seems to be in the same ballpark. We're balking at an item like this (though SK makes a good point), but Roland must be selling these digital grands because they keep making them. My guess is they go to the same kinds of people who buy a real piano with a QRS or similar system so they can "listen to music" even though they don't play it themselves, or not very much. Mogut Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 I just don't see a market for it, outside of a well-funded venue that doesn't want to deal with tuning and maintenance. Well, like the AvantGrand, that would be the selling point, and the recording capabilities.and it wont be that hard to beat out the AvantGrand. I had the luxury of doing side-by-side comparisons of the yamaha line of acoustics and DP's including the AvantGrand. The AG sound system was horrible, the worst of all the models I test drove. I will expect the V-piano grands sound output quality to be superior over the AG -Greg Motif XS8, MOXF8, Hammond XK1c, Vent Rhodes Mark II 88 suitcase, Yamaha P255
