Art Thompson Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I'll be interviewing Brian Setzer this week, who has an amazing new album called Setzer Goes Instru-MENTAL! If you have any burning questions you've always wanted to ask Brian, bring 'em on! Art Thompson
mdlestat Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 What would Brian say was/is his happiest achievement as a musician? Was it an award, an acknowledgment from peers, a record sale, or something more personal? It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it. --Aristotle
02R96 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Does he have any plans to record a straight up Rock and Roll CD? Dan "I hate what I've become, trying to escape who I am..."
Caevan O'Shite Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Does he use the volume and tone controls on his guitars to affect the tone and degree of clean-to-overdriven response? What amps would he use for a really small, intimate gig with a lower overall volume? Clean? Ovedrive? Who would he turn listeners on to that he thinks should be better known? What favorite techniques, tricks or approaches would he turn guitar players on to that he thinks are under used? What recording techniques, tricks or approaches? If he were to do a "tribute" album and/or show, who would it be to? If someone were to do such an album or gig in tribute to HIM, who would he want it to be? When's he going to come out with that death metal album? Ask yourself- What Would Ren and Stimpy Do? ~ Caevan James-Michael Miller-O'Shite ~ _ ___ _ Leprechaun, Esquire _ ___ _
picker Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 With such a great voice, why did he go for an instrumental album? Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
Strategery Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Big Brian Setzer fan here. Brian, what is your favorite amplifier? If it's Fender, what is your favorite Fender amps and are they modified and how so? Thanks, Randy from Georgia "Just play!"

GuitarPlayerFL Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Since Rock and Blues always have yearly festivals (and he is the most recognizable Rockabilly artist alive today), has he considered having a Rockabilly festival (every one or two years....like G3) where up and coming Roots/Rockabilly bands could get more exposure? Of course, he would be the headliner! A Jazz/Chord Melody Master-my former instructor www.robertconti.com (FKA GuitarPlayerSoCal)
TuskBuffer Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 That's very cool--I remember Brian Setzer being on the cover of GP magazine back in the 80's with tab for "Stray Cat Strut" in the issue--one of those songs that always puts me in a state of nostalgia whenever I hear it. As far as a question to ask--What does he feel he's brought uniquely to the musical table? No doubt he's brought a LOT to the table over the years, but what is it that he feels he's pioneered or come up with on his own? Maybe even a certain phrasing or sound or something he just likes to do. Does he do anything that goes against musical convention? Oh yeah, and of course...when is he going to order some TuskBuffer Picks? Dannyalcatraz Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Who does Brian secretly want to record with, but is so far out there he thinks it wouldn't sell? Sturgeon's 2nd Law, a.k.a. Terrell Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Where's he been and wheres that 50 bucks he owes me?
SEHpicker Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Kinda obvious questions but what guitar player was his biggest influence? What guitar player inspired him to start playing? What was his first guitar? And what age did he bigin playing? SEHpicker The further a society drifts from truth the more it will hate those who speak it." George Orwell
bennyguitfiddle Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Do I have to look as cool as him to get noticed? If not what does geek like me have to do to get noticed? What artist should I look up to get my sleeves? Why do you lay down? I say that it beats standing up! whats got you feeling so down? I hold up my empty cup!
Dane Brammage Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 The deluxe vinyl box set of "Songs from Lonely Avenue" apparently includes a disc with multi-track .wav files for every song on the album. Very cool! I'd love a chance to break out my 5120 and try a little guitar karaoke with the Brian Setzer Orchestra. Unfortunately, the box set costs $130. Not so cool! Are there any plans to release the multi-tracks by themselves? Possibly combined with an instructional video? And could you throw in a Setzer wig? It would improve my image tremendously.
d halfnote Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Prolly too late to enter a question but I hope you find some way to share any bit of interesting info that might not make it through the editing process with us... If I could add a question, it'd be similar to Danny's above: What sort of music might he have up his sleeve that he hasn't offered already ? Or does he really dig anything that people would be totally surprised by, like Turkish bagpipers or Native American songs ? d=halfnote
