Cygnus64 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 When I switched computers last year, I somehow ended up with doubles of every song I've ever purchased from iTunes. Hod do I get rid of them, aside from the obvious of deleting each one ( I've got about 800)? Thanks.
kanker. Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 You delete each one. In the File menu, select Display Duplicates. Then, start deleting judiciously. One tip - to select a group of disjoint items, hold the Command button (at least on a Mac) while you click on all the duplicates. Then you can delete them in groups (or all at once if you really want) A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.
Ken Beaumont Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 I found this and cut & pasted what I thought might be the easiest: Use the iTunes command "File->Show Duplicates" then right click on the sorter bar and add the "Date Added" field. Then you can sort by Date Added, all the new ones will be at the top, and it may make it easy for you to select all the ones you want to delete. Cygnus64 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Thanks guys. It's a lot quicker if I hold down ctrl and delete many at a time.

kanker. Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 That's it? I have 79GB... I'm over 35,000 tracks, 140 GB A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.
Cygnus64 Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 That's it? I have 79GB... That's what I've purchased from iTunes. I probably have another 10gigs that I've ripped on a backup drive. As for unripped CDs, I have thousands. I opted for the 8 gig iPod touch, my gal just bought it. I'll probably only load 2 gigs of music on there and leave the rest for apps etc. Over the weekend we'll buy her a 32 gig iPad 2 if we can find one. This is big stuff for both of us, we've been working hard and it's our reward. I've never owned an mp3 player.
kanker. Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 You're gonna love the iPod Touch. I've had mine for about 3 years. It's indispensable, even now that I have an iPhone. A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

16251 Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Just curious why no one is upset that iTunes does this. I actually dislike this program because of this very reason. Am I missing something? AvantGrand N2 | ES520 | Gallien-Krueger MK & MP | https://soundcloud.com/pete36251

If so, iCal and Calendar sync perfectly - add a date in iCal and it'll sync to Calendar next time you hook your iPod up to the computer and vice versa. The Notes app syncs with Mail - you can create notes in Mail or on the iPod, and they'll also sync. The Maps app uses Google maps, and can give you driving directions. There are a lot of great free apps out there for everything from games to bar code scanners to recipes to gas finders and so on. It really depends on what you dig. The Weather Channel app is a good one. There are tuner apps that are great, including the Peterson strobe tuner and a TC Electronics polyphonic tuner (play all notes at once and it tells you what's out). Those would, of course, require a mic input, but the one on the earbuds would probably suffice. I Skype with my iPod when I'm in Europe, use it's location services to find restaurants and so forth. The really is an app for just about anything. A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

There are things about iTunes and the way it interacts with my iPod/iPhone/wife's iPad that frustrate me, but the benefits of the program far outweigh the issues I have. Right now I have 2 iPhones, 2 iPod Touches, an iPad, one original AppleTV, one newer AppleTV and 4 computers slaved to an iTunes library that's sitting on an Apple Time Capsule that works as my wireless router too. I can access any of my media on any of my machines or devices anywhere in the house effortlessly. I can use the Remote app on any of the devices, or iTunes on the machines, to play movies or music on my TVs, and I can use Remote to quickly switch what device, Apple TV or computer, it is controlling. It's pretty damn slick. A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

I figured out the internet stuff, but how do I load songs onto it?
Joe Muscara Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Have you plugged it into your PC with songs loaded in iTunes? iTunes should step you through it. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible!
