Hundo Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 The 50th anniversary the death of the great jazz bass player Scott LaFaro is coming up on July 6, 2011. He was tragically killed in a car accident in Flint, NY at the age of 25. His 1820's Prescott Bass was burned and broken in the accident also, but has been restored. I think some sort of tribute should be made and am thinking of making a pilgrimage to the accident site. Does anybody have any thoughts or suggestions about this idea? Thanks folks.

Richard W Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 BP magazine had a long article about LaFaro sometime within the past two years--can't remember the exact issue. "Everyone wants to change the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves." Leo Tolstoy
Hundo Posted March 6, 2011 Author Posted March 6, 2011 I remember that, rw, thanks. I'm just getting a feel for how strongly people feel after all this time. Have you heard the Live at the Village Vanguard recordings?
Nicklab Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 IIRC, that article might have been regarding the release of the book Jade Visions: The Life and Music of Scott LaFaro. His death truly was a tragedy, especially when you listen to those Village Vanguard recordings with the Bill Evans trio. Hundo Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 You're right, Nick. Listen to "Alice in Wonderland" from Sunday at the Village Vanguard. Simply amazing.
staghind Posted April 29, 2011 Posted April 29, 2011 Each time a description of the change, there is always plenty to talk about around the world. They are not exempt. A statement usually is: "i have to change almost immediately versions, so do not expect me to date continue to attack ... staggy
ZZ Thorn Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 A pilgrimage would be pretty awesome, like LeFaro. I gotta believe BP mag would be interested in a story about it or at least a pic of it. Probably better for their July issue, but maybe they'd take it for their August issue. Hard to believe he was just 25. http://www.myspace.com/themoustachioed
AnonymousInvent Posted May 5, 2011 Posted May 5, 2011 I would recommend listening to him play. What better hommage can you pay to a musician? Anonymous Inventions http://www.anonymousinventions.com
