aellison62 Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Has anyone had a chance to listen to this new powered speaker from EV? Wonder how it compares to QSC K10 or K12. Price is right at $599. Kurzweil Forte 7, Mojo 61, Yamaha P-125, Kronos X61, Nautilus 73
mikecorbett Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Yeah, I wanna know too, anyone?? We are all slave's to our brain chemistry!
thomsurf Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 I owned them briefly but decided to return them. They're definetly quality speakers, but just didn't do it for me. They had a 'muffled' sound to them (this could very well be the Roland supernatural piano sound that caused this). But I must admit that they sounded better than any other active speaker I had tried at that time (Mackie srm 450, Eons, Roland BA330, DB tech). Last week I had the opportunity to spend some time with JBL PRX612m and QSC K10 and the prx is my favourite active speaker so far. BTW I used my Roland RD300NX 'concert grand' for all speakers mentioned. Yamaha CP88, EV zxa1

mikecorbett Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 That entry level Japanese made piano is to any Roland stage piano what a juicy Alberta steak is to a slice of ham... We are all slave's to our brain chemistry!
mikecorbett Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 That entry level Japanese made piano is to any Roland stage piano what a juicy Alberta steak is to a slice of ham... Though I must append that this goes for any Yamaha stage piano too, much as I love em. We are all slave's to our brain chemistry!
Dave Ferris Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 . Last week I had the opportunity to spend some time with JBL PRX612m and QSC K10 and the prx is my favourite active speaker so far. BTW I used my Roland RD300NX 'concert grand' for all speakers mentioned. I'd be curious myself to hear those JBLs. That's a good price point for a 12" box and lightweight too. Another fellow on the Piano World forum went through different speakers and settled on those JBLs for his Nord Piano.. The NP 88 sounds better with my RCF TT22A, a 12" speaker, then my 8" RCF TT08A-less harsh and more body to the sound. The 22A is a tad over 50 lbs. but a very compact size. If you're not putting it up on a pole and just bringing the one, it's not too bad. The CP5 seems less affected then the NP with regard to the 8" vs 12" box--it rarely sounds strident like the Nord. On the other hand, you don't wanna be running the CP5 mono... Fwiw both the 300NX and especially the 700NX sounded pretty darn good through the aforementioned TT08As playing solo when I schlepped them into the GC a couple of months back. However with Roland DPs, I still have my reservations using them live. They've never worked out for me. Then again, I've never used this quality of speakers with them nor have I had any experience with the NX stuff live. As is the usual case, EV stuff is very difficult to audition here in LA. Unless you're a church, represent a sound company or some other facility buying ten or more speakers, I've found the local rep to be pretty un-responsive to a request from a lowly musician to try out a pair of speakers for keyboards... https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709 2005 NY Steinway D Yamaha AvantGrand N3X, CP88, P515

mikecorbett Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Sorry for completely going off topic. I am genuinely interested to hear of anyone elses experiences with the ELX112P´s particularly when compared to the QSC K12´s. I have a chance to score some lightly used. thomsurf Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I'm totally aware of the Supernatural sound to be very demanding when it comes to speakers. 95% of the time I play with headphones and this is where the sound shines! I'm pretty sure the EV's sounds killer with a more 'sparkling sounding' dp.. Yamaha CP88, EV zxa1
