Markyboard Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 Can someone steer me to the battery and a place to get it? I know it's a 3.3V Lithium (Ion I assume), D cell size but I'm not sure how much if any flexibility there is in the Voltage rating and such. Also I've read the threads about installing a battery holder but I just as soon solder it in it's original spot. I've Googled this plenty but nothing gets me to the "buy this battery". Thanks
mate stubb Posted March 2, 2011 Posted March 2, 2011 My first inclination would be to email synthfool. I'll bet he has fixed many MMs. http://www.synthfool.com/ Moe ---

Thanks Which synth ? I got some for Oberheim/ Roland analog synths and I hope it will work for you. Please double check before placing a order: DigiKey Pt.-No.: P226-ND MFG PN: BR-2/3AE5SP DESC: Batt Lithium 2/3A CYL W/PCB PINS lead free ROHS BYEX It´s a yellow battery from Panasonic. Don´t remember the price,- but it was CHEAP ! good luck A.C.
Markyboard Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Thank you Gentlemen. I did look at the synthfool site but didn't see this listed. I agree an email may be in order. I did hear from another site that specializes in vintage parts but came up negative. BTW it is for a Memorymoog ( sorry - only had it stated in the title). and yes it is a yellow panasonic battery. Haven't opened it up recently to check for specific part number and such as I was hoping to have this in hand before doing so. Thanks again.
Al Coda Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 BTW it is for a Memorymoog ( sorry - only had it stated in the title). Yes, and it was my stupid question,- sorry. While quoting, I was looking in a box for the batteries I got because these were in their original package w/ the details printed,- and I forgot the title of the post. S**t happens. and yes it is a yellow panasonic battery. Haven't opened it up recently to check for specific part number and such as I was hoping to have this in hand before doing so. Thanks again. I´m sure my batteries will work for you and your Memorymoog too. At that time, all the synths used these batteries. Actually, I have an empy one, also yellow and Panasonic, in my hands. If you read the printing on the battery in the Memorymog, I must be: Panasonic Lithium Battery BR-2/3A 3V Do not recharge Matsushita Electric There aren´t Pt.Nos on te battery itself,- these are only on the DigiKey sticker of the plastic bag. If you visit DigiKey website, just enter the DigiKey Pt.No.. The batteries work for Oberheim Xpander, Prophet 5, Roland MKS80 and 70 too. Most important for you is to find out if the battery in your Memorymoog has flat soldering lugs or round pin-type ones. The part I recommended in the former post has the round pin-types and the empty one here in my hands has flat ones. So, if you need the flat soldering lugs, the DigiKey Pt.No. might be slightly differernt. Technically, the batteries are the same, but having the right lugs makes exchange easier. These batteries also exist w/o any soldering lugs, in the case you have a battery holder in the Memorymoon. A.C.
therealvicz Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 This? http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/1257-batt-lithium-2-3a-cyl-w-pcb-pins-br-2-3ae5sp.html "Just a tad more attack on the filter, Grandad!"
Al Coda Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 This? http://parts.digikey.com/1/parts/1257-batt-lithium-2-3a-cyl-w-pcb-pins-br-2-3ae5sp.html Yep,- that´s what I have here. Have in mind I buyed these for the Oberheim Xpander. Please check which soldering lugs are needed for your synth. Open the synth and compare. Electrical,- it´s the right one. A.C.
The Real MC Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I just replaced the battery in my MM. Get the Panasonic BR-C battery with tab terminals. Don't bother re-soldering the new battery. Buy a "C" cell battery holder to hold the battery and solder the holder wires to the PC board, secure it with a tie strap so it doesn't fall out in transit.
Markyboard Posted March 3, 2011 Author Posted March 3, 2011 Thanks again so much Al - sounds like you answered my question and I was starting to get a bit worried. Amazing that you can't Google Memorymoog replacement battery and get an answer. Don't bother re-soldering the new battery. Sorry can't remember - is it Rob? Anyway why not? The battery lasts practically forever (28+ years on this one). Is soldering this so difficult or is it that easy to blow up from a hot iron?
The Real MC Posted March 4, 2011 Posted March 4, 2011 Don't bother re-soldering the new battery. Sorry can't remember - is it Rob? Anyway why not? The battery lasts practically forever (28+ years on this one). Is soldering this so difficult or is it that easy to blow up from a hot iron? Two reasons. 1) Those batteries don't like extreme heat and will explode if the soldering iron is applied too long. 2) The NEXT time you have to replace a battery, it's a LOT easier swapping them out of a battery holder. They SHOULD have used holders in the first place but it was an extra $$$ and they couldn't possibly conceive players using them outside of ten years.
Markyboard Posted March 4, 2011 Author Posted March 4, 2011 Thanks I appreciate you relaying your experience I opened the board up this morning. It is the round type legs but clipped real short with another short wire attached from each leg to the PWB. In other words the battery legs are not soldered directly to the board so it's REALLY easy to remove the attached wires and resolder them to the new battery legs. I think 2 seconds max of heat on each leg is going to do it. Again - really appreciate everyone's help on this.
