Time will tell. But I find it intriguing. If it works well (intuitive) it could really add a new layer of expressiveness to electronic keyboard playing. local: Korg Nautilus 61 AT | Yamaha MODX8 away: GigPerformer | 16" MBP M1 Max home: Kawai RX-2 | Korg D1 | Roland Fantom X7
reidmc Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Based on his website, I'd say he's both a visionary and a crackpot. There is definitely something going on there. . . "The Doomer allows the player to do things beyond which are possible without the accessory."
burningbusch Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I've often wondered, how difficult/expensive would it be to have keys that are a membrane vs. the dead plastic we have today? It almost looks like that's what's going on in the examples with the fingered vibrato. It doesn't seem like it would be ALL that expensive. Sounds like it's triggering Omnisphere. Busch.
marino Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 I am unable to reach the audio/video material. What's going on?
mate stubb Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 The keys pivot in a second axis - towards the player. You could use poly aftertouch to achieve the same level of control. Moe ---
zephonic Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 I am unable to reach the audio/video material. What's going on? Do you have Quicktime installed? If not, download it from Apple's website. local: Korg Nautilus 61 AT | Yamaha MODX8 away: GigPerformer | 16" MBP M1 Max home: Kawai RX-2 | Korg D1 | Roland Fantom X7
marino Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Ah, that's it. I have recently uninstalled Quicktime.
MAJUSCULE Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Eight grand for 37 keys? Gee, let me think... Good idea, perhaps, but I doubt they'll move more than five. Eric Website Gear page
Bridog6996 Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Doesn't seem all that interesting to me, but my mind would probably change if I got to play around with one. I kinda agree with Mate above. What's different about the way it works exactly that can't be achieved with aftertouch? Maybe that was explained somewhere on the site and I missed it. Admittedly, I only scanned it. On a different note, how awesome is it to be Jordan Rudess, being able to test drive virtually every new keyboard and/or synth related product that comes out? I mean, other than the whole having to play with Dream Theater thing. That guy has gear being thrown at him left and right. Nice work if you can get it. My YouTube Channel
zephonic Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 What's different about the way it works exactly that can't be achieved with aftertouch? For example, with the lateral movement of the keys you could control pitch bend. Pushing the keys away bends up, pulling it towards you bends down. According to the literature the control parameters are assignable, so the z-plane could take care of whatever you want it to. I think it is an interesting approach, would love to try this although the price of admission is prohibitive at present. But from their site: Investors & Manufacturers: A recent Casio advertisement said that they alone had sold 70 million musical keyboards in the last 30 years. Sure, that includes a lot of toys, but it also happily tells us that, yes, there really are a bazillion keyboard players in the known world. And the Hyperkeys is naturally, inherently protean, with instances for every genre of music and every culture. If youre interested, we want to hear from you. So if one of the big boys see potential here, who knows... local: Korg Nautilus 61 AT | Yamaha MODX8 away: GigPerformer | 16" MBP M1 Max home: Kawai RX-2 | Korg D1 | Roland Fantom X7
kanker. Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Ahh, so now I know the proper conversion 70 million = 1 bazillion Would have been much easier to understand in base 10... A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.
