johnchop Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Replaced an acoustic upright with wonky action and a sound I never loved with the ES6. And I can practice while the kids are asleep! LOVE the action on this thing, and I find the core piano sounds quite wonderful. I know KC is full of Yam/Rol fans, and that's cool, and I did try the comparable models. None quite got the finger-to-sound connection that I wanted. The Kawai nailed it. I let go of my gear snobbery on this one. Initially, I wasn't so sure about built-in speakers, but they're great for the space I'm in (living room w/ hard floors), and it's one less thing to wire up. MIDI control is really basic, and there aren't a ton of onboard sounds, but I found myself not caring at all when I just wanted to keep up with Hanon and scales and songwriting. There's a lot to be said for getting a really focused instrument. I also don't find myself missing "ivory touch"--nice, but not crucial--and some of the more advanced keyboard action features, which IMO kinda over-engineer the feel, if that makes any sense. Now to change my sig to "All my keyboards start with K"... -John I make software noises.
Ken Beaumont Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I like Kawai, my friend has an mp8 that I would love to take off (pry from) his hands. Boards: Kurzweil SP-6, Roland FA-08, VR-09, DeepMind 12 Modules: Korg Radias, Roland D-05, Bk7-m & Sonic Cell
Joe P Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Congrats to you, John! Sounds like you made the right decision for yourself. What are you gonna do with the upright? Regards, Joe
johnchop Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 @Joe P: Trade-in was part of the deal. The dealer said he could use it for parts. Man, it was good to let go of "feature-itis" and just go with what felt and sounded good... lest I go down the "which digital piano?!" rabbit hole. -J I make software noises.
