Korg PS60 as a Controller? As a Stand-alone KB?

I'm currently using Macbook/Mainstage with an M-Audio controller for organ sounds. Love the sounds, but hate the controller's action. Also, would like to have decent, quick-draw organ sounds as a backup if/when the MB rig dumps on me. Would the PS60 work as a substitute controller? Secondly, are the organ sounds able to be edited to the level of Nord, EVB3, etc? Thanks.

Firstly (as a controller) of course; it's got both USB and MIDI, so you're good to go. Not much in the way of realtime controllers, though.

Secondly (editability) not a chance. There's *some* editing, but nothing like Nord or EVB3; this is a budget keyboard, you get what you get.

If you want to make a lateral move to another keyboard with shitty synth action? Sure.

Thanks for the replies, Sven and D-Bon. I spent a little time with a PS60 last week and had high hopes for a light, cheap, easily-navigated pallet of decent organ and synth that doubles as a controller. I found the action to be markedly better than the M-Audio, but that's akin to "the hottest gal in the nursing home."

I thought the set organ patches were generally good, although "thin," lacking in balls and a convincing enough Leslie simulation. I was hoping that could be improved through editing. Alas.

Ok, if the PS60 is not my solution, any suggestions, given the criteria stated, above? Thanks.

Try This

I realize that this isn't exactly what you asked for, but with soft synths it would work. I tried the action yesterday and was impressed. They make them in a variety of sizes.

Ummm... how does a Novation Nocturn, a straight-ahead USB controller, help him when, as he states in his original message, his MB rig "takes a dump"?

Sorry, but this is a classic thread fail.

Wow, two minutes, that was fast!!

Guilty as charged on the back up sound issue!! But, the action is good. Not many choices other than a Kurz SP-4. But, that is a lot more dough!

I disagree - this thread fail is not worth a  - but only a

Hmmm... perhaps you're right. Sorry, I was too harsh. ;)

Ok, I'll try again!

You didn't say synth action, so this works in a pinch and is cheaper than a SP-4.

I have one and find it a nice piece of kit for the $$$.

Strike 2. He said something for organ, which, to me (and most organ players) means NOT a weighted action.

Care to try again? ;)

In a pinch or as a backup this actually has a pretty good organ sound and the action is fine for organ in most settings. I would not hesitate to use it for that purpose. Again, price considered.

It really is a nice board and controller for the dough. Sorry, but I am not aware of anything else that is close to the OP's request.
