BluesB3 Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I know ACL runs on different days and times in different markets but did anybody catch Allen Toussaint last night? I've been listening to his music since I was a pre-teen but I was surprised to see what a skilled pianist he was. A not-too-shabby band either. It was great hearing a clarinet solo in an arrangement. Yamaha CP73; 145 gig Leslie; Nord Electro 61; Oberheim OB3^2; Wurlitzer 200A; Ampeg Gemini I amp; Speakeasy Leslie preamp; QSC K-10 (dearly departed, '58 B3, Bob Schleicher 50C Leslie now serving the Lord in Bryant AR)

Joe Muscara Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 They've run this episode a few times. He's a helluva piano player. http://www.austincitylimits.org/3509-allen-toussaint His extended intro to "Southern Nights" was to die for. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! Hoo hoo!" - Daffy Duck "The good news is that once you start piano you never have to worry about getting laid again. More time to practice!" - MOI
Adan Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 His extended intro to "Southern Nights" was to die for. I almost died listening to his extended introduction. I understand scene-setting, but that one is a little over the top. Once he gets into it, yes, very nice. He's one of a handful of New Orleans piano players I'll be listening to over and over until I die (literally). Gigging: Crumar Mojo 61, Hammond SKPro Home: Vintage Vibe 64
toddco Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Caught the Get out of my life and Southern Nights... Great show! I'm psyched to see him in Telluride this summer. I guess he's going to have Rita Coolidge playing with him and his band too
Gismo Recording Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I have that ACL recorded in my DVR. Haven't watched it yet. Will probably watch tonight. Ken Denny Gismo Recording So Cliché
BluesKeys Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 allen has written and produced some outstanding songs. Boz Scaggs has cover several and of couse the Meters too. Neat guy and understated at the piano. Jimmy Those are my principles, and if you don't like them... well, I have others. Joe Muscara Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 This doesn't have the intro he did on ACL, but clearly, the cat can play. [video:youtube] "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible!
