mate stubb Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Just guessing - when they went to the Ham Suz X models? Moe ---
eric Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Just guessing - when they went to the Ham Suz X models? I think it is long before then. I just went down to look at my 122, which is about 1973 and the top shelf is thick particle board. This site seems to confirm that particle board became the norm after 1970. http://www.tonewheelgeneral.com/agelist/agelist.php
retrokeys Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I'll bet it happened just about the time that CBS bought Leslie (Fender wasn't the only company they messed with). I imagine it was about the same time the Leslie 900 was marketed (around 1970 I think). Seemed like everything in the line got the cost cutting treatment on the manufacturing end.
Outkaster Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 Looks like it was after 1970? That link talked about the baffles. "Danny, ci manchi a tutti. La E-Street Band non e' la stessa senza di te. Riposa in pace, fratello" noblevibes.com
Joe Muscara Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I'll bet it happened just about the time that CBS bought Leslie (Fender wasn't the only company they messed with). OT Comment - CBS bought a bunch of companies back then, including those above and Steinway, but at least several of those brands are still around. Many look back at that period with disdain, but now that I think of it, it may have been a blessing in disguise. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! B3Nut Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I'd have to check the Hamtech archives on this one to be sure, but IIRC it was a bit before 1970, whenever CBS bought Electro-Music. I don't recall ever seeing an MDF shelf on a pre-CBS Leslie, and all the post CBS cabinets kicking around the workshop have MDF shelves, as do the post-CBS (after Hammond took Leslie over) cabinets like my HL-722. Got in an 80's-vintage 122 cabinet with rotors and speakers yesterday (missing amplifier and motors/motor mounts), and it's got MDF shelves also. It has the foam rotor with the later bearing mount (and cheap-looking bearing) too... TP --- Todd A. The Real MC Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 My 760 has a plywood shelf, my guess it is early 70s 'cause my piano teacher bought it new before I owned it.
