Sundown Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 Hey all, ...not sure if you ever saw the movie "On Golden Pond" with Henry Fonda, Jane Fonda, and Katherine Hepburn, but it has (IMO) one of the best piano scores you'll find. Dave Grusin did the score, and in addition to being great music, he really had a knack for using the piano to create musical sound effects. He did these "splashes" on the high keys that really evoke the image of rain falling on a lake. Sadly, I don't think you'll find the soundtrack anywhere (or if you do it will be used vinyl). Maybe one day it will be re-released on CD or MP3 in its entirety. It's a good movie regardless (albeit a bit dated), but the soundtrack is amazing. Sundown Finished: Gateway, The Jupiter Bluff, Condensation, Apogee Working on: Driven Away, Backscatter, Eighties Crime Thriller Main axes: Kawai MP11 and Kurz PC361 DAW Platform: Cubase
Synthoid Posted February 26, 2011 Posted February 26, 2011 It's available on vinyl... used. http://www.amazon.com/Golden-Pond-Original-Picture-Soundtrack/dp/B000FCEHFW/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1298762440&sr=8-6 I own the movie on VHS and agree--excellent soundtrack. moj Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Get "Now Playing Movie Themes" Grusin's solo piano recordings of his movie themes. Besides Golden Pond, there's The Firm, Tootsie, Milagro Beanfield Wars and others. Just great playing from a master musician.
Sundown Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 I do have the "On Golden Pond" track from that album, but I'd really like the full score. cnegrad Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I wish Dave would come out of retirement; or at the very least, record something from within retirement....
ABECK Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 One of my favorite soundtracks of the 80s! I also really like his work on My Bodyguard, and The Firm.
Steve Force Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 I too am a Dave Grusin fanboy. Loved what he did! I particularly like what Dave Grusin and Lee Ritenour did back in the day.. Here is a sample.. [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cxx0zAOO1tA Steve Force, Durham, North Carolina -------- My Professional Websites
dongna Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 If anyone's interested, good sheet music for The Firm is available in a songbook. I've found the transcriptions to be very accurate (not to mention challenging). http://www.amazon.com/Firm-Soundtrack-Piano-Solo-Songbook/dp/0793530431
