pinkjimiphoton Posted February 25, 2011 Posted February 25, 2011 my bro jeff plays guitar and bass, but he's really an electric mandolin player...and unlike anything you may have ever heard. he plays his own 12 tone kind of music, but takes it out to warp speed and areas of the universe unexplored by most. i remember when we were kids, he played purple haze for me on a 4 string semi hollow univox beatle bass with an unheard of amount of effects for that time...and if not exactly mirroring Jimi's licks precisely, nailing the phrase, the tone, the vibe. sometimes his stuff is light, sometimes dark...but always original, always twisted, and always something you never normally hear..don't listen to the notes...that could drive you over the edge, as he has no respect for anything but the chromatic scale...check out the sounds...liquid, twisted vistas of electricity, like aural fractals of dissonant consonance. you'll either love it or hate it, but i gotta turn peeps on to this cat cuz he's in real bad health, and i think his music deserves to be heard...so please check him out, i'm spamming the guy i know, but i guarantee you'll never hear an electronic mandolin like this cat.. http://www.electrictigrrr.com http://www.electricanointing.com or, if ya do facebook, http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1346184767&sk=wall to me, he sounds like sonny sharrock melted thru Jimi Hendrix on a trip with lou reed during the metal machine days... http://a2.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/62810_1630573647993_1346184767_1701143_5922480_n.jpg peace... http://www.sweetrelief.org/ https://www.wepay.com/donations/memorial-stone-for-juliane-pocius

pinkjimiphoton Posted February 27, 2011 Author Posted February 27, 2011 like i said, it's more about the sounds than anything else. jeff's music is an aquired taste, for sure. http://www.sweetrelief.org/ https://www.wepay.com/donations/memorial-stone-for-juliane-pocius
Winston Psmith Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 Brother, I LOVE what I've heard so far, but I'm another effects fiend! Sorry that your bro isn't doing well. Let him know folks are listening. "Monsters are real, and Ghosts are real too. They live inside us, and sometimes, they win." Chad Thorne Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I liked this stuff a lot, but I didn't play any clip that didn't sound like electric guitar. As somebody who plays mandolin also (albeit acoustic), I was hoping to hear something "out" and yet unmistakably "mandolin-y." Did I miss it?
Caevan O'Shite Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 I've been enjoying this one- Electric Tiger / "Too Lazy For A Funnel"-excerpt. I'm pretty sure that your Brother Jeff would rrrrrrreally enjoy a Lexicon Vortex, particularly with a volume-pedal connected as a continuous-controller/expression-pedal via a stereo Y-cord. I similarly suspect that if he hasn't already, he'd dig a fretless electric, perhaps of Stratospheric descent (yeeeeeeeeeaah, like the fretless Strat Adrian Belew played through a Foxx Tone Machine octave-fuzz on "Big Electric Cat" )... pinkjimiphoton Posted February 28, 2011 Author Posted February 28, 2011 yah, jeff has been fighting metastatic kidney cancer for about the last 5 years now, and having a tough time of it. i'm glad you guys are digging it, cuz i think that'll help give him the strength to keep fighting...he's an excellent dude, we've been friends since about 67 or so. and tho he does play electric guitar and bass, just about everything you hear on his solo stuff is made with his mandolin...it can get pretty intense sometimes. alot of music snobs claim he can't play, but tell ya what, he can play his ass off...i love the cat, what can i say. opaque melodies that would bug most people are what's happening, and i'm glad you guys are digging it. peace! http://www.sweetrelief.org/ https://www.wepay.com/donations/memorial-stone-for-juliane-pocius
Caevan O'Shite Posted February 28, 2011 Posted February 28, 2011 "Nu Tsong Pao A", by Electric Tiger, sounds like music played at a party on Devil's Reef out of Innsmouth... If ya wanna get him a really cool present sometime- and they're going relatively cheap on e-bay and the like- or at least they were last I looked, 'cause nobody seemed to "get" them- snag him an old, used Lexicon Vortex, and a volume-pedal with a stereo Y-cord for an "expression pedal" for the Vortex... Bet he'd dig a Foxrox Octron, too... ...and a Sustainiac Model C "Acoustic Feedback" generator... But these last two are a bit pricey... pinkjimiphoton Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 we be po' boys from willimantic, boss, so spending a lotta cash just ain't in the stars... but then....the last two can be built fairly easily... sustainors in particular!! http://www.sweetrelief.org/ https://www.wepay.com/donations/memorial-stone-for-juliane-pocius
Caevan O'Shite Posted March 1, 2011 Posted March 1, 2011 Hey, build him one of those octave-fuzz machinations that you've been makin'... The specific sustainer I speak of is like a big, honkin' pedal that splits the guitar's signal and amplifies one branch, sending it to drive a vibrating-transducer that clamps onto the headstock... pinkjimiphoton Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 i've gotta fuzzface variant i built for him, and am gonna give him the octavia prototype i built. i remember those sustainors! lol when i was a kid, i used to put the headstock of my guitar against my speaker cones to get that kind of effect, lol... the sustainors they build into guitars are stupid easy to clone...all ya need is a couple parts, and an old single coil ya don't mind de-winding. http://www.sweetrelief.org/ https://www.wepay.com/donations/memorial-stone-for-juliane-pocius

pinkjimiphoton Posted March 1, 2011 Author Posted March 1, 2011 the craziest thing i did as a kid tho, was my first loud amp was an old kay combo, about 70 watts thru a 12" 16 ohm speaker...with tremolo. i discovered (don't try this at home) that if i plugged the extension speaker jack into the input for the tremolo channel, i could use the trem as a crude oscillator to make some really horrible, incredibly loud shrieking noises. it was way too loud...it was excellent...lol but then i wondered why the amp blew up eventually!! http://www.sweetrelief.org/ https://www.wepay.com/donations/memorial-stone-for-juliane-pocius
