agitato Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 What are some of the pros and cons between the Korg R3 and Roland Gaia synth? How do they compare?
Synthoid Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 A bit more information would be helpful, such as: What type of music do you play? Will this be your first synth? What's your budget? etc. Personally, I prefer a synth with plenty of knobs and sliders for editing. And--after watching this Sweetwater video, I'd buy the Gaia. [video:youtube] A GOOGLE search will provide you with basic reviews. When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray.
Sven Golly Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 A bit more information would be helpful Most definitely! I don't have anything else to add, but I figure this thread is preferable to the latest cryptic gibberish from midijr, so I thought I'd bump it up.

It's also impossible to slander someone via the written word.... A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.

What. The. Fuck. Are. You. Talking. About? On second thought, never mind. I can't possibly bring myself to care.
Adan Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 The R3 sounds a fair bit better, in my opinion. And it's multitimbral. Stating the obvious, the Gaia has the better hardware interface. That's how they face off, in a very brief nutshell. Gigging: Crumar Mojo 61, Hammond SKPro Home: Vintage Vibe 64

Whenever I think I miss getting high, I come back here, and I realize I never really got all THAT high! Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.

Oh, and while you're being helpful, please list the "affordable, doesn't sound like shit" options available. (we're adults here, no need to use asterisks ) The miniak and the original microkorg are both usable as actual musical instruments in certain settings, if you're willing to program 'em. There are also a bunch of used 'boards in that price range that have their uses. I'm glad we cleared this up.
zephonic Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 The Gaia does not do vocoding, or? local: Korg Nautilus 61 AT | Yamaha MODX8 away: GigPerformer | 16" MBP M1 Max home: Kawai RX-2 | Korg D1 | Roland Fantom X7
offnote Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 I was just searching some info about GAIA on this forum and what I found was some rude, not informative, silly responses for legitimate and interesting subject...
Seannn Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 The R3 is an extremely powerful synth, I love it. Leads, LFO options, multiple timbers, it's all there and you can do a hell of a lot. You just have to spend some time programming sounds before the show. The GAIA has lots of sliders. My Juno-60's a heck of a lot of fun, I imagine the GAIA would be too. If it doesn't sound too fat, wet, or dry, and you don't want a vocoder, I'd go with that. But apparently, several think the R3 has the sonic edge. Hmm! ~ Sean Juno-60, Juno-G, MicroBrute, MS-20 Mini, PX-5S, R3, etc.
Leh173 Posted July 1, 2011 Posted July 1, 2011 Out of a choice between those two, the Roland JP-8000 wins. Roland Fantom G6, D-70, JP-8000, Juno-106, JV-1080, Moog Minitaur, Korg Volca Keys, Yamaha DX-7. TG33, Logic Pro, NI plugs, Arturia plugs etc etc
