cnegrad Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Now when these guys use melisma, I enjoy it. Now let's keep this in context; these are a couple of amazing vocalists (Stevie Wonder and Eric Benet) just fooling around on the radio. But whether or not you like the melisma, you've gotta admit they've got great ears:
linwood Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 Thanks for that one. Love both of those guys.
Steve Nathan Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 As it is so often in discussions of what's good/what's bad in music, the problem is not with the technique, (or the technology for you digital vs. analog folks), it is in the application. The use of multiple notes for single syllables is not in itself evil. It's when Mariah, Christina, Beyonce et al do it without any evidence of taste or nuance that it turns my stomach. Anyone who compares Aguilera to Aretha should be taken out back and .........I'll go with "beaten". These days, "shot" might trigger an FBI screen Don't rush me. I'm playing as slowly as I can! http://www.stevenathanmusic.com/stevenathanmusic.com/HOME.html https://apple.co/2EGpYXK
drawback Posted February 20, 2011 Posted February 20, 2011 I saw a kid on American Idol the other night (PVR'd by someone for my "enjoyment," need I say more) who pulled out every conceivable stop at his audition. Which is what I said out loud to the tv, "STOP! SAVE IT!!" As with most things in life: Just because you can, doesn't mean you should. ____________________________________ Rod Here for the gear.
