MAJUSCULE Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Even though I'll be out of the country from the 17th to April 1st. Here's my lineup of shows up to now for March: -1st: Yann Tiersen at the Starlite Room -5th: Gerald Clayton Trio at the Yardbird Suite -15th: ESO Plays Frank Zappa at the Francis Winspear Centre Ahhhhhh yeah. Dave Ferris Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Gerald is a wonderful player. One of the best young pianists on the scene. Every time I hear him, he's better. He's cheating though, coming from that family. https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709 2005 NY Steinway D Yamaha AvantGrand N3X, CP88, P515
MAJUSCULE Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 Indeed, I only discovered tonight that he was coming and have been watching Youtube vids all night. What a badass! Very inspiring player. Eric Website Gear page
moj Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I saw Gerald in 2005 at a jazz workshop backing up Larry Coryell. He was with the USC Jazz Band at a festival. They did a few standards which he played like a jazz vet. I thought at the time that this college dude is too good to be still in school. Didn't know he was John Clayton's son.

He's cheating though, coming from that family. Yup to everything here. His feel is stupid. To quote Josh Nelson, 'It's in his blood'. He should have won Monk that year, not Tigran. Cygnus64 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 -15th: ESO Plays Frank Zappa at the Francis Winspear Centre clonk Look what it says after conductor. I've met him, he's one of these guys that I think went to Eastman at 14. Brains up the wazoo.
Jeff Klopmeyer Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 On an unrelated note, I'm also looking forward to March. On the 19th, I'm back in the studio for the first time in 10 months to record new tunes for my next album. Good times. Josh is an excellent player as well. It's good to see some guys from this generation not totally influenced by Brad Mehldau. Tigran is great too but different then Gerald and Josh. https://soundcloud.com/dave-ferris https://www.youtube.com/@daveferris2709 2005 NY Steinway D Yamaha AvantGrand N3X, CP88, P515

It's truly a treat to have him here. I know Robert Walsh, the singer/guitarist for this show, he's a monster as well. He showed me some of the charts. Totally ridiculous stuff, odd-time and meter changes all over the place, huge sweeps with septuplets, ninetuplets (however you say that). Shit's gonna be about as technical as humanly possible. We did a Zappa show here several years ago. We did tracks off of "The Yellow Shark", including G-Spot Tornado. Hard stuff overall, but there's harder. Ligeti, Crumb, late Elliot Carter- that stuff's insane.
