More than a week has passed since Super Bowl XLV, and it's time to start a new NFL football thread.

With the possibility of a lockout looming, there's no way to know how much of a season lies ahead, if any. But that doesn't have to stop us from talking football. ;)

Here are today's headlines:

Sources: Union proposal gaffe led to talk's end

NFL Notebook: Beyond draft, nothing is guaranteed

Imprisoned WR Plaxico Burress in 'terrific shape,' and seeks NFL return

Titans hire away Longhorns' Gray to be new DC

Packers extend GM Ted Thompson's deal

Best,

Geoff

Today, the weather is sunny with a chance of afternoon showers:

NFL, union agree to mediation for labor fight

blah blah blah

I glaze over trying to read this right now.

When you know, just tell me if they will be playing this fall, and if so, when. :)

Colts cut Bob Sanders

My wife said "What if he comes back strong with another team and has a chip on his shoulder?"

I said "If he has a chip on his shoulder, he'll probably be out at least another 2 seasons...."

Dude only played 3 out of every 7 games in his career, didn't even make it through the first quarter of the first game of last season. Steroids are a hell of a drug.

Sanders was like the Greatest player I never saw.
Yeah, when he was actually on the field, he was a real game changer... :snax:

Bob Sander's biggest problem is that he is small for the NFL. So he gets injured a lot. He has gotten to expensive for the Colts to pay for the few games he is healthy enough to play throughout a season. IIRC, hes only played about 9 games in the last 3 seasons. That doesn't cut it.

5 to 1 he signs for minimum with the Pats for the purpose of whipping Meriweather into shape and resurrect his career.

He stays there and stays healthy for 2 years, then goes off and signs a huge contract with the Raiders, and is never heard from again.

Despite the labor talks, teams have already started unloading their dead weight. Especially over-paid vets with injury problems.

I believe this is definitely a sign of things to come as the NFL restructures. The best players will keep their huge salaries. Everybody else will have to prove themselves.

With every team having a bunch of hungry players, I'm not sure how that will affect wins and losses with cats trying to get paid. But, I'd imagine it works in favor of league parity.

Of course, that doesn't mean Panthers, Bengals and Browns fans should get overly excited. Those teams still have a lot of rebuilding to do.:cool:

Part of a new trend?

Packers release A.J. Hawk

"With A.J., the business side of the game is driving this decision," general manager Ted Thompson said in a statement. "We're hopeful that we can continue to work with A.J. to have him be a part of our team in the future."

Best,

Geoff

Wow! That was unexpected. I wonder if the Pack is thinking of Clay Matthews' younger bro as a replacement at LB. The San Diego Union Tribune thinks the Chargers will give him a look too.

Kevin beat me to it. A couple of "Woot! Superbowl baby!" posts in Chargerland and the rest along the lines of "Great. He'll be on IR by week 3". I think Sanders' primary role will be to mentor young safety Stuckey and add some depth to a safety corps that isn't star studded but executes the system really well collectively
