Asking your advice...

Hello -

I'm brand new here to KC and I must say there is a huge wealth of information on your forum... what a recourse for any player. Well done.

Here's my question -

Is there a place on your site for those looking for players or for players looking for gigs?

I produce and perform in a giant rock band called the Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra (check us out here - http://www.urorocks.com). We are reconfiguring the group and adding a keyboardist. Craigslist is a ghost town, and the old reliable Boston gig posting forums have vanished. Any advice you could offer on where to search or post would be greatly appreciated!

If it's not inappropriate, I will post a bit more information on the URO; if out of line I will immediately delete this post - Info follows -

Thank you! Sal

The Ultrasonic Rock Orchestra performs the music of QUEEN, THE BEATLES, THE WHO, DAVID BOWIE, and LED ZEPPELIN. The URO consists of 10 singers and 5 musicians, some of the singers augment the band depending on what is required by the given song.

You can see/hear the band at http://ultrasonicrockorchestra.com/main.php?page=watch

Feel free to explore the site to see if you're interested in auditioning.

The URO is on a brief performing hiatus as we bring on a few new members. At this time we have 10 dates booked in June and 12 dates in Oct./Nov. Some of these dates involve travel. All our gigs are PAID performances, unless approved by the group.

Our goal for 2012 is to book 60 to 100 shows.

You -

Are at least 21; have good gear and transportation; are capable of learning material on your own, bringing your creative ideas to the group and taking direction; are in good physical condition and enjoy putting on an energetic performance while at the same time executing your parts as a musician at a high level.

If you are interested in auditioning, please reply to this email - sal@ultrasonicproductions.com - ideally with a link to video or pics of you in performance and/or audio. Auditions will take place in early March. If you have any questions please let me know.

We have the Garage Sale/KC Classified sub forum. Maybe a new one for just recruiting? I hear you on craiglist, ours seems to bring out nothing but amateurs.

Boards: Kurzweil SP-6, Roland FA-08, VR-09, DeepMind 12

Modules: Korg Radias, Roland D-05, Bk7-m & Sonic Cell

Thanks, Toano88...

I checked that forum but it's only for 'established members who post regularly' so I didn't want to immediately break the rules (since this is now post number 2!). Perhaps I'll email the admin to see if it would be appropriate to start a 'help wanted' section...

I'm impressed. Sal, if I weren't (more than a couple of) decades too old and on the other side of the continent, I'd go for the job. Nice website, good plans, and I respect your attention to detail and appreciate your respect for us. Looks like a dream gig, at least from here.

Good luck and stick around.

It's a shame that Sal isn't a keyboard player himself, so once he finds a suitable player he'll be gone. We need more folks that actually look at the lay of the land before wading in. :thu:

Wish I were in the area, that's a project that would fit me like a glove. ;)

Welcome Sal,

Considering you're in Boston, MA, Maybe you should consider posting flyers at your 2,351 local colleges? Berklee, NEC, Tufts, Boston College, ..... I'm sure you could sniff out some serious players that way.

Thanks for the feedback, (on the forums and the band), it is much appreciated. I'm very impressed with this site and, as I dabble in keys at the studio, I will definitely scan here first for answers and post any questions. I'll post in the recommended thread once I get the okay. In the meantime, are there places that you might suggest for hunting those of your persuasion? I do feel like this should be a gig that would be appealing and you'd think I couldn't spit in Boston without hitting a musician, but...no luck, as yet.

You guys are great! Thanks!

I absolutely love your band's concept. Music that's challenging, and would be a total blast to play. If (or should I say when) my current band ever broke up, I think my next project might be along the trail that you're blazing now.

If I were in Boston, I wouldn't think twice about auditioning.

Kurzweil's R&D department is near Boston, some of their people live in Boston. Might want to give a shout out to them - they probably know the local scene well enough to help. contact davew@ycrdi.com

Nah, Boston's not really a college town.
