jamienewman Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Hi. I'm tired of portable keyboard benches that make my butt sweat. The plastic/pleather/naugahyde crap that's used to make them just doesn't breathe. Anyone aware of a bench made with a fabric that won't make me look like I need a diaper change? (I know, I could just put a towel or something between me and the bench, but (a) that's just one more annoying thing I need to carry around with me and (b) one more piece of laundry.) Thanks!
MoKen Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Probably cheaper to just take it to an upholstery shop and get it recovered. Also, many of the drum thrones have fabric covers.
iLaw Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 1. Go to a local fabric store that carries upholstery fabric and buy enough to cover your current bench (I'm sure a square yard will be more than enough); 2. If you don't already own one, go to the hardware store and get a heavy duty staple gun; 3. Go home, rip/cut the plastic cover from your current bench and replace it with the new fabric, securing it on the underside of the bench seat with staples. Larry. Hah! MoKen beat me to it!
Sven Golly Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I'd much rather a towel that I can throw in the laundry than a permanent fabric stool that collects sweat and odour. Febreeze can only do so much, after all.

Hmm? Wouldn't pants separate your butt and the bench? Boards: Kurzweil SP-6, Roland FA-08, VR-09, DeepMind 12 Modules: Korg Radias, Roland D-05, Bk7-m & Sonic Cell
johnchop Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Then he could staple upholstery fabric to his pants. I really don't see why this is so hard. I make software noises.

ITGITC Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 On The Big Bang Theory, Sheldon explains how he wears "Bus Pants". He wears these over his regular pants whenever he rides the city bus. Ian Benhamou Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Get yourself a Roc N' Soc drum throne. Super comfortable, portable and smaller foot print than an annoying piano bench. Ian Benhamou Keyboards/Guitar/Vocals [url:https://www.facebook.com/OfficialTheMusicalBox/]The Musical Box[/url]

OB Dave Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 another +1 on the Roc N Soc. Mine has a back on it too, which is nice. My only complaint is that it's pretty heavy. It's super sturdy, but it's also pretty heavy for what it is. And speaking of Bus Pants, some 20+ years ago, when the Naugahyde on my keyboard bench ripped I, not having much money, cannibalized an old pair of worn-out Levis, opened one of the leg seams, cut it to size, and used a staple gun to re-upholster the bench. Worked great. I still have that bench.
DanL Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 I have a Gibralter drum throne I use that has more of a suede/microfiber cover. It's not too bad. My other throne I keep in our rehearsal spot is vinyl covered, and I have a towel and even that doesn't help much. I took some "cab driver" beads from a car seat cover down there, they work pretty well. I had made a seat cover for my motorcycle out of them so you get some air flow between your seat and the bike seat to keep you from sweating on long rides in the heat. Best 8 bucks I ever spent. David Loving Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 What are those concert piano benches covered with leather right? Go for broke! "Forget it, Jake. It's Chinatown."
The Real MC Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Hi. I'm tired of portable keyboard benches that make my butt sweat. Then stop farting so much
theGman Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Just stand. You can fart away, and my fan blows it on the drummer.

cjsm Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I've been thinking of buying a piano cushion. The piano world store sells them, but they're a bit expensive. Might search around to find them cheaper. http://www.pianosupplies.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=P&Category_Code=bench_cushions
