No Keyboard mag review of Yamaha CP1?

I was playing a CP5 yesterday and it dawned on me that Keyboard never did a proper review, nor of the CP5 or CP50. Odd. Steve, any particular reason why?

Interesting that no one mentions the lack of any dynamics to the Wurly...

Scott Healy mentions the growl and bark as being "a bit unnatural." Related?

I find comparison of the S6 to the "round" Van Gelder/Blue Note piano sound baffling. I love the VG/BN sound but there's nothing "round" about it.

And those keyboardists who claim they're thinking of selling their acoustics in favor of the CP1 deserve one of these:

12 for a year - damn that's cheap! I don't even get a single issue for that amount, here in Sweden...

Too much stuff, too little time, too few gigs, should spend more time practicing...!  🙄

main instruments: Nord Stage 3 compact, Yamaha CP88, Kurzweil PC4, Viscount KeyB Legend Live

Yeah... and (not to derail this thread) it's more expensive here in Canada, but for the price of 3 issues at the newsstand, I can have all 12 delivered to my home, before they hit the newstand. Even if you think the magazine only hits the mark for you 25% of the time, you're still breaking even (dollar-wise).

Okay, back to talking about Keyboard's DP reviews. ;)

I wish the Numa Piano review had been given a little more space, since that's the one I will probably have the hardest time finding to audition. Though even a longer article would still leave me wanting to try it out first. Very intriguing at 25 lbs.

Gigging: Crumar Mojo 61, Hammond SKPro

Home: Vintage Vibe 64

I wish the CP5 had the graded action.

The CP5 has the exact same action as the CP1. Do you mean the CP50?

The CP50 has graded action, the CP1 and 5 don't

I played them all at NAMM, Considering price, I thought the CP5 was the one to get for me. BUT, I liked the Nord Stage 2 much better. I was really surprised the CP1 didn't sound or play much better than the CP5.

The action is identical. So is the default CF Grand. Where they differ to my ears are the S6 sample and the Rhodes. The CP-1's Rhodes sound more rich and full to me. The Wurlis are identical too.

After playing everything at Namm, with the exception of the you know what ;) , I still think the CP5 is the best option available at this time for me.

The extra bonuses are the Jazz & Latin drum grooves ( the Afro-Cuban #94 is great ) in the CP5. Although the same ones are in the CP50, for some reason they sound clearer and smoother to me on the CP5 then the 50-- as do the APs. Could be the DAC is superior in the 5.

The swing (#81 Modern Jazz) is the best I've heard in any hardware drum machine, synth/workstation or DP. I have a lot of fun just blowing tunes over the different grooves--beats 2 & 4 on the metronome after 32 years.

The mic input is invaluable too.
