David Loving Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Anyone see Leon Russell and Elton John on Letterman Wednesday night? Elton was, as always, interesting to hear; what is going on in his life, and how he got together with Leon Russell. I always, from the '70's, latched on to Leon Russell's sound and wanted to play like that. The performance was good. I could not hear Leon's singing etc., but I am transfixed by his posture and hand position at the piano. It seems about perfect, elegant. Leon was a shade inert, however. He was way down in the mix and did not have a lot of energy it seemed. I know he's up there in age. Is there a health issue? I am buying the album on iTunes just to help him make his bus payment. Sven Golly Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It's been well documented that they recorded the album just days after Leon underwent brain surgery, and he was recovering as the recording progressed. No doubt he's still not 100% from that.
Mr. Nightime Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I bought the album as soon as I heard about it. I'd gotten a delivery from Sweetwater, and they included a magazine, "M" I think. They gave the album a stellar review, so I bought it through iTunes. Good stuff "In the beginning, Adam had the blues, 'cause he was lonesome. So God helped him and created woman. Now everybody's got the blues." Willie Dixon
Mogut Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 They had a televised concert a few months back. Elton and Leon played the entire new album onstage.... it was great for fans. -Greg Motif XS8, MOXF8, Hammond XK1c, Vent Rhodes Mark II 88 suitcase, Yamaha P255
