ITGITC Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 http://www.spinningsoul.com/images/barrywhite.jpg I'm talking to the guys on the forum now. GeekGurl and Gangsu you can skip this, 'k? And BTW, Happy Valentine's Day! ---------- Guys, Valentine's Day is Monday. Have you got your schtuff together? I used to begrudge the media and the marketeers for making a big deal out of Valentine's Day as just another way for them to put their hand in my pockets. Unfortunately, they didn't listen to me. It still comes around every year. Since my wife and I have been together over 30 years, we won't be going crazy doing the roses / candy / dinner out thing. And I'm not big on it being on a Monday this year. As a general rule, Mondays are awful. Saturday night sounds like a much better time to celebrate de vacances de l'amour to me. So, I am posting this as a Public Service Announcement. And I'm telling ya - although you may think Valentine's Day is contrived, and she might even say that she wants to skip it altogether... don't do it. Don't screw with Valentine's Day. Get down to the mall or the drugstore and get a card. Get some candy / flowers / whatever it takes, but do not listen when she says, "Let's just forget about Valentine's Day this year." She doesn't mean it. So get her something and don't screw it up. And while you're out shopping for her, get yourself something too... just to balance things out. You gotta look at these contrived holidays as opportunities. Maybe you've been considering the purchase of whatever it is that's on the top of your GAS list. You can more easily justify it if you do a little pre-planning. For instance... You: "Honey, I LUVS U. Here's a box of candy and oh, by the way, check out the living room. I found this cool B3 and Leslie on sale at the music store... I KNEW you would want me to have it, right? Here. Listen to how it sounds when I play those Barry White tunes you love. Wanna hear some Marvin Gaye?" OK - that may take some work, but I'll bet you can pull off. As a muso, you are experienced in things romantic. We've all played wedding receptions and bar mitzvah parties, right? The message is clear: Valentine's Day is Monday, don't screw it up, cover your bases, do the right thing, let her know you care, give it your best shot. And remember this: it takes two to Tango. You can make Valentine's Day work for you. OK, so maybe I'm sounding a bit Neanderthal about this. However, you have to consider if the tables were turned... What if SHE knew you wanted her to have something nice for Valentine's Day? So she came home with that new pair of shoes she's been wanting for the past six months. She'd unwrap them and say, "I bought these for myself today because I knew you would want me to have them. Aren't they just fab? They don't make my butt look too big, do they?" (Your reply is - of course - "No Honey. You look mahvelous!") You're so OK with that, right? Right? So it's the same idea. Sure, one's a B3 & Leslie. The other is a pair of shoes. But they're REALLY NICE shoes. And have you priced shoes lately? OK - so I've done us all a favor; I've reminded you that Valentine's day is coming up and you gotta do something. You're welcome. Err... so what's your plan? (I need some ideas.) Cygnus64 Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Err... so what's your plan? I'm taking my best gal to see a show. I'll be playing in the show of course. She doesn't know I got her a ticket yet, not that it's going to be an earth-shattering surprise. Should be fun: [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XmYgU6QPuo8&feature=player_embedded

ProfD Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 This contrived holiday is a logistical nightmare for me. Picking up the gifts is easy. Getting the right name tags on the boxes is a mf'er. One of these years I'll be smart enough to either get married or serve, er, buy everybody the same d*mn thing. PD "The greatest thing you'll ever learn, is just to love and be loved in return."--E. That hurts, Monksdream. Actually, V-Day is probably the day I most enjoy being single. My cell phone will be inoperable that day. Thus I will not be fielding any ex-texts. NoahZark Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I'm a big offender when it comes to ignoring Valentine's Day, but I SWEAR my wife thinks nothing of the "holiday." Still, upon Tom's sage advice, I will step up my game this year! Thanks, IT-GIT! By the way... As a muso, you are experienced in things romantic. We've all played wedding receptions and bar mitzvah parties, right? "Romantic" bar mitzvahs??? Do I need to report you to the authorities, Mr. H? Noah

That hurts, Monksdream. Actually, V-Day is probably the day I most enjoy being single. My cell phone will be inoperable that day. Thus I will not be fielding any ex-texts. I didn't mean that single guys don't show their SOs how important they are. I was referring to those who were not single at the time of their unfortunate oversight but subsequently became single because of it. Besides, if you have an SO you're technically not single. You single fellers are on your own! MonksDream Posted February 11, 2011 Posted February 11, 2011 Although Beyoncé's video and choreography are stunning, I much prefer this version. Just love Nataly Dawn's pushes on the bass line. Bosendorphen Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I have to give my wife a nice Valentines Day card because she insisted I spend money on gear last summer when she got her new job. My QSC K10 was one of the goodies! She deserves at least that if not more! Plus my band has a Valentines Dance gig tonight. She's coming as well as several other band wives. Should be fun! cnegrad Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 Just 'cause no one else said it yet: "Hey Honey, because I love you so much, on this Valentines Day I got you the new Korg Kronos"!!! There; now I've gotten it out of the way...
linwood Posted February 12, 2011 Posted February 12, 2011 I got Linda and Mom both iPads. That keeps the revolving door on the dog house well oiled.
