Mr. L Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Perhaps you musical masterminds can suggest some instrumental pieces suitable for a 3 piece, keyboard-based prog/fusion instrumental group (keys, bass, drums). I'm working with a new drummer and would like to freshen up the set, mixing material I've written with some covers. Thank you for kind consideration friends! johnchop Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Hell's Bells - Bruford [video:youtube]Puuj8kx1AaY (the first tune in this clip) I make software noises.

Bobadohshe Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I have to say Steve, that's definitely the realm of hideously full blown fusion, but those are my types of harmonies! Very Chicky. Kawai C-60 Grand Piano : Hammond A-100 : Hammond SK2 : Yamaha CP4 : Yamaha Montage 7 : Moog Sub 37 My latest album: Funky organ, huge horn section https://bobbycressey.bandcamp.com/album/cali-native
johnchop Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Check the "T Lavitz and the Bad Habitz" album, too. Gold mine. (Steve... nice stuff!) I make software noises.

Tonysounds Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I know these probably arent proggy/fusioney enough, but if youre adding covers, its to give the audience a little bit of breathing room as it where, so you could make the exceptions maybe: -Fanfare for the Common Man ELP -StarCycle or El Becko (Jeff Beck: There & Beck) -Peaches En Regalia (Zappa) Bonanza Medley: Yours is No Disgrage (Yes) up to the 1st verse/Grand Illusion (Styx) up to the 1st Verse)/Tempus Fugit (Yes) (Cuz they borrow so hard from the Bonanaza gallop.) Youre breaking in a new drummer: What happened to Hannah? Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
Steve LeBlanc Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 ...Very Chicky. well, I was listening to a whole lot of Chick in 1989, so yeah http://www.youtube.com/notesleb
Mr. L Posted February 9, 2011 Author Posted February 9, 2011 Very nice Steve! I'm actually sitting at the C7 and plunking out "No Time..." and could actually see myself using this more as a solo number for myself at the piano. I've already gone through it (sans solo section) as a four pass arrangement where 1) I played mel. in LH and RH unison 2) back to A and re-played as written and for kicks 3) played treble in LH and bass clef and comp in RH. Made for a very nice jazz etude of sorts. I'm still figuring stuff out as I go but kudos my friend!!! Very tasty! It's been so long, you're welcome back my friends......to the show that never ends!!!
Moonglow Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Another ELP/Mancini tune, also in the vein of "breathing room" would be the theme song from "Peter Gunn." Keith pulls off some really cool harmonies in this tune.....and if you figure them out, please share!
