Magpel Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I've fallen asleep on the synth world as the past 4 or 5 years have thrown me full on back into the life of gigging guitarist. I was thinking of selling my Evolver desktop because it is not getting much use, because I know it would be easy to reacquire, and because I know there is demand and a pretty stable cash value. I have loved that thing and learned it inside out, but frankly, monophony is not really for me, I've learned. Anyway, a search here reveals exactly one thread in which the Tetra is referenced. Surprising! I know the Mopho gets a lot more play and the Tetra is a poly Mopho. So I am really interested in comparisons of Tetras features and Evolver's, beyond the obvious polyphony. I guess Tetra lacks the effects delay lines, distortion, hack (no big loss to me) and the digital oscillators (big loss). What else? Funny--looking over Tetra's specs, I think the Evo feature I would miss most might be the external audio input! Any impressions of this module generally? How about impressions from Evolver users? GDP Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 I own one, here's what I like about it. The Tetra lends itself well to a lot of modulation abilities so that chords you play can vary harmonic qualities in almost unlimited ways. The analog synth engine, by its nature, has a very pleasing sound. Adding polyphony and the modulation of nearly all characteristics of the sound bring an incredible life and warmth to the sound. You have multiple LFO's, envelopes, 4 sequencers, etc. all routable and assignable to physical controllers as you desire. Don't judge this thing by its presets, the whole ballgame lies in the tweaking of it. I highly recommend the SoundTower editing software (even the Pro version), and for sure have a good controller....I use a Novation remote compact for programming and a PC3x for performance. Effects? Add them at the mixer.
