Synthoid Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Not doing anything for me. My wife asked me to turn it down. When an eel hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's a Moray.

Sven Golly Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 From a Twitter feed that I'm following: "Not even Bruce Springsteen's crotch can save this thing right now... But it wouldn't hurt." Epic fail... on all counts.
guzman Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I was waiting for Justin Bieber to show up to save the day... LMAO!! It was poop.
allan_evett Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Some obvious sound issues.... Other than some of the visual/light fx, pretty mediocre show, IMO. Though the 'Peas are an eclectric act, they didn't seem to be quite in their element... 'Someday, we'll look back on these days and laugh; likely a maniacal laugh from our padded cells, but a laugh nonetheless' - Mr. Boffo. We need a barfing cat emoticon!
b3keys Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Hey! I heard that the 1,200 displaced tix holders were given neon green suits to wear.
MusicWorkz Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 The LED clothing was cool Yamaha (Motif XS7, Motif 6, TX81Z), Korg (R3, Triton-R), Roland (XP-30, D-50, Juno 6, P-330). Novation A Station, Arturia Analog Experience Factory 32
zxcvbnm098 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 More proof that hip-hop/pop is not really a "live performance" genre. For the sake of this show, they're just a dance troupe/Vegas spectacle. And a goofy one at that. I understand the dilemma...how do you bring in a musical act that appeals to a younger demo? Problem is, there are no musical acts that can deliver on that kind of a stage that hit that market. It's a tough gig even if you're Prince or U2. But Sven is right....epic fail sums it up.
Cygnus64 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 You guys are insensitive and clearly have no taste. Those puppies were ador.... oh wait, wrong bowl.
Phnymiboy Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 What dreck! Is it me or did they sort of sounded like The Archies? http://bigfun3.bandcamp.com www.facebook.com/BigFunThree
Rost Vavrick Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 You guys are insensitive and clearly have no taste. Those puppies were ador.... oh wait, wrong bowl. funny
eric Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 It was a little bit tough to watch it. I was with a bunch of friends asking me to critique it from a musical standpoint. I decided that it was not really music. The LED suits in the dance troupe was a nice diversion and Fergie was not too bad on the eyes...otherwise I don't think it was worth much.
16251 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 This over-seen video just seems to fit for a better halftime show. [video:youtube] AvantGrand N2 | ES520 | Gallien-Krueger MK & MP | https://soundcloud.com/pete36251
B3Nut Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I saw a facebook post referring to Fergie as "angry sparkle princess"...thought it was apt. At least she wasn't autotuned. She was flatting a lot...bad monitor mix? Or is she tone deaf like most pop singers? I honestly have no idea, not all that familiar with her at all other than that she's responsible for "My Humps" which always made me want to stab myself with a large fork every time I heard it. The choreography and stagecraft were fun to watch, but the singing was a bit painful to listen to. And I can't stand that song they made by sampling Dick Dale, though I imagine Dick is quite delighted with the royalties... TP --- Todd A. Dana. Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Fergie's still hot.... http://dumbfoundedone.files.wordpress.com/2007/11/pee_pants.jpg
Sundown Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 It's displays like the half-time show that confirm that popular music is in more trouble than I thought... Sundown Finished: Gateway, The Jupiter Bluff, Condensation, Apogee Working on: Driven Away, Backscatter, Eighties Crime Thriller Main axes: Kawai MP11 and Kurz PC361 DAW Platform: Cubase
Tonysounds Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 The complete package: a game I won't watch with a half-time I wish I hadn't. Kudos! But hey, at least Christina Aguilara did a nice job with.....um....er.... Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.
smanzella Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Half time blew. What a joke and what a shame. Can't really recall a good half time show in recent years. Yamaha CP-73, Hammond SK Pro 73, Yamaha MODX 7, Roland Fantom 06, Roland VK-8M, Yamaha FS1R

Cygnus64 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Half time blew. What a joke and what a shame. Can't really recall a good half time show in recent years. I think it would be better to have a different kind of show than an exclusive musical act. Something visual like Cirque du Soleil, something that honors the two teams' cities and the host city, something more Olympics-like. It would appeal to a larger demographic.
Moonglow Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I'm wondering if the sound/monitor mix on stage was as bad as what we heard. Slash was cool, though.....at least he played something. "We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." - George Bernard Shaw
MAJUSCULE Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 That was wack. I approach every half-time show, Super Bowl, Grey Cup or other with skepticism. I'm right almost every time. It just doesn't seem like a good situation for anyone involved. Eric Website Gear page
Bill H. Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 These harmless little dance numbers - many of which are rather clever in their studio constructs - just didn't translate at all when blown up to Super Bowl proportions. This group is usually a marvel of economy. The studio version of "Boom Boom Pow" is actually a kind of a minimalist hip-hop masterpiece. But it was a mess live. BEPs were tough to defend at the Super Bowl party I was at today.
VegasGT3 Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 Saul was ok, that's about it. BTW, our shows are better in Vegas! Kurzweil PC3x, Nord Electro 3, Nord C-1, Casio Privia PX-3, Yamaha DX-7, Korg Polysix, Moog Taurus 3, Yamaha Motif XS (rack),Ventilator, QSC K12, K10
mcgoo Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I couldn't get past not seeing a band up there. To me it represents a shift in generational values of music performance that I just can't accept. Call me an old fuddy duddy. I presume the reason was that they would've been in the way of the dancers. For me that's not a good enough reason. I'm reminded of words of wisdom from someone I admire: "Hitting "play" does not constitute live performance". tucktronix Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 This is the worst halftime show I've seen, period. I was at a friend's house for a SB party and, of course I got stuck watching and listening to that crap Kronos 88 Platinum, Yamaha YC88, Subsequent 37, Korg CX3, Hydrasynth 49-key, Nord Electro 5D 73, QSC K8.2, Lester K Me & The Boyz Chris Beard Band
StartRun Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 ...we're musicians. We also like to critique, ad nausem. Here's mine. Apparently the NFL folks decided years ago that having their SB act surrounded by folks below the stage jumping and pointing to the beat made for good TV. It detracts from the performer and shows the NFL hasn't elevated it's non-athletic entertainment chops beyond "Up With People"...

DanS Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 I put Return To Forever at Montreux on during the half time show. No pitchiness, no stupid costumes, and no dancing.
