"Not even Bruce Springsteen's crotch can save this thing right now... But it wouldn't hurt."

Epic fail... on all counts.

Some obvious sound issues.... Other than some of the visual/light fx, pretty mediocre show, IMO. Though the 'Peas are an eclectric act, they didn't seem to be quite in their element...

The LED clothing was cool :snax:

More proof that hip-hop/pop is not really a "live performance" genre. For the sake of this show, they're just a dance troupe/Vegas spectacle. And a goofy one at that.

I understand the dilemma...how do you bring in a musical act that appeals to a younger demo? Problem is, there are no musical acts that can deliver on that kind of a stage that hit that market. It's a tough gig even if you're Prince or U2. But Sven is right....epic fail sums it up.

It was a little bit tough to watch it. I was with a bunch of friends asking me to critique it from a musical standpoint. I decided that it was not really music. The LED suits in the dance troupe was a nice diversion and Fergie was not too bad on the eyes...otherwise I don't think it was worth much.

I saw a facebook post referring to Fergie as "angry sparkle princess"...thought it was apt. ;)

At least she wasn't autotuned. She was flatting a lot...bad monitor mix? Or is she tone deaf like most pop singers? I honestly have no idea, not all that familiar with her at all other than that she's responsible for "My Humps" which always made me want to stab myself with a large fork every time I heard it. The choreography and stagecraft were fun to watch, but the singing was a bit painful to listen to.

And I can't stand that song they made by sampling Dick Dale, though I imagine Dick is quite delighted with the royalties...

The complete package: a game I won't watch with a half-time I wish I hadn't. Kudos!

But hey, at least Christina Aguilara did a nice job with.....um....er....

Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.

Half time blew. What a joke and what a shame. Can't really recall a good half time show in recent years.

I think it would be better to have a different kind of show than an exclusive musical act. Something visual like Cirque du Soleil, something that honors the two teams' cities and the host city, something more Olympics-like. It would appeal to a larger demographic.

I'm wondering if the sound/monitor mix on stage was as bad as what we heard. Slash was cool, though.....at least he played something.

These harmless little dance numbers - many of which are rather clever in their studio constructs - just didn't translate at all when blown up to Super Bowl proportions.

This group is usually a marvel of economy. The studio version of "Boom Boom Pow" is actually a kind of a minimalist hip-hop masterpiece. But it was a mess live.

BEPs were tough to defend at the Super Bowl party I was at today.

I couldn't get past not seeing a band up there. To me it represents a shift in generational values of music performance that I just can't accept. Call me an old fuddy duddy. I presume the reason was that they would've been in the way of the dancers. For me that's not a good enough reason. I'm reminded of words of wisdom from someone I admire: "Hitting "play" does not constitute live performance".

This is the worst halftime show I've seen, period. I was at a friend's house for a SB party and, of course I got stuck watching and listening to that crap

...we're musicians.

We also like to critique, ad nausem.

Here's mine.

Apparently the NFL folks decided years ago that having their SB act surrounded

by folks below the stage jumping and pointing to the beat made for good TV.

It detracts from the performer and shows the NFL hasn't elevated it's non-athletic entertainment chops beyond "Up With People"...

I put Return To Forever at Montreux on during the half time show.

No pitchiness, no stupid costumes, and no dancing.
