I now own an analog synth

Although it has yet to come into my possession. Recently there was a Korg MS2000 on a local Craigslist for a decent price, but I wouldn't have been able to pick it up for a month, so the person didn't end up selling it to me. That ultimately left me dissapointed and wanting a hardware synth more than ever. Up until now I've used a crappy 49 key controller with no knobs to control free softsynths on my computer. I looked all over ebay at both vintage analog synths and more modern synths as well.

I knew I wanted poly, and that my budget was essentially looking for the cheapest I can find. After a little searching I found this on ebay and decided to put in a bid. It sat at 200 dollars for a few days, but within the last minute or two someone else started bidding and I was pushed up to within 7 dollars of my max bid at 275. I guess its kind of expensive for this synth, considering its not in the greatest condition, but I'm still happy with it.

Now that I've got this though, I really want to get a few pedals to beef up the sound, but once again, my buget is pretty much aimed at what is the cheapest thing I can get that will be adequate. I want a delay, and more specifically I want the kind that you can adjust the delay time and get the crazy wooshy effects. I'm pretty much looking at these 2 pedals:

http://guitars.musiciansfriend.com/product/Electro-Harmonix-Memory-Toy-Analog-Echo-and-Chorus-Guitar-Effects-Pedal?sku=502713

The Rogue looks like it would work pretty well, though people in the reviews say the delay time is on the shorter side. I also don't see mention of whether or not you could do that time adjusting effect, but it says its analog, so I think you would. At 30 dollars, it's either a great deal or awful, but I can't really make a judgment without using it.

I'm pretty sure the electro harmonix pedal would sound great, and it also has a delay time mod for a chorusing effect which would be really nice.

I also want to get a distortion pedal, but I'm really not sure what to think about the lower priced models. I'd really like to keep it under 50 dollars if I could. There's about 10 different Danelectro distortion pedals in that range, which I have no experience with, but something about their look doesn't give off the feel that they're very good quality. Do any of you have suggestions for a cheaper end distortion pedal?

PS I'll put up pics and videos once I get it

I've looked at the RE-20, and it is perfect for what I need. It's also way out of my price range, one of the pedals I linked to is 30 dollars. I'd love to get the RE-20, but I can't afford it right now. I'm looking for something that can be an adequate substitute until I can afford a higher end pedal. I'm sure there is some stuff in the lower end that still sounds pretty good.

I also just realized that now I'll be needing a new stand... My old setup used a really crappy light weight x stand to hold the controller, which weighed about 5 pounds, and a heavier duty x stand below that to hold my electro 61. The Delta weighs 30 pounds if I remember the manual I read right. That stand isn't going to cut it. I either want something which can attach to my heavier x stand and give me a second tier, or a whole new stand with 2 tiers. Again, I'm also looking for an affordable option, I wouldn't be past custom making a second tier for my current stand. It's much deeper than my electro, and I don't think it would be that hard to add an attachment behind it.

As much as I follow the tenet "friends don't let friends use X-stands," this might be helpful.

Clonk here.

(oh, and since you're in uber-cheap mode, note that the prices on that site are MSRP, not actual street prices :thu:)

Congratulations on the synth! I agree that used pedals - BOSS especially - would be a great option for you. I wouldn't choose a distortion (I've been there), but definitely grab some sort of delay, and a phaser/flanger if you'd like (I'd wait on buying the latter). The phaser can do amazing things to your string patches.

Regarding the stand, you definitely may want something sturdier. I don't know how much my stands weigh, but two of them - my favourite ones - are these retailer brand "Supra" stands. (So any cheap brand such as the one Sven mentioned should work.)

They probably cost me around $30 or something - they're ridiculously sturdy, and ridiculously inexpensive - I think I put a DX7 on it once, and it survived. They're also X-stands. Try your stand when you get the keyboard, it may be fine. If not, the double-tier option could save you space, but buying another stand altogether may save you a bit of money depending on what you can find.

Thanks for the replies guys. The add-on tier for my stand looks like it should work well, I put in an order for that. As far as pedals go, I looked around at the more 'budget' options and ended up getting a 120 dollar Electro-harmonix Memory Boy pedal. From watching videos it can do some very versatile stuff and function not only as a delay, but also as a pseudo chorus and vibrato.

It's been one day, but the waiting is killing me. I hardly slept last night.

Yeah, Memory Boy is analog like your synth! I didn't know anything about the Delta until just now. I really like the idea that you got an uncommon analog synth plus an effect pedal and it was very cheap by synth standards. And you'll probably have a pretty unique sound from it!

I agree frogmonkey, although it won't be the most versatile synth, I think that I'll be able to work with it and integrate it into my playing.

It's been 3 days since the auction ended and the seller hasn't shipped it yet. I'm pretty novice to ebay, is that normal?

EDIT: Darn snowstorm

Dear scottasin12343,

Hi Scott, I was going to write you today. We do have a problem. We've been snowed in for over a week and it's still coming down. I have a friend with a 4 wheel drive and we were going to attempt to ship your item today but I'm afraid the post office may be closed. If I can get out, we'll use FedEx or whoever's open. Sorry for the delay but there's really not much else I can do. I'll mail you when your item ships.

EDIT: It's shipped, I'd guess I'll have it on monday.

Yep, definitely get rid of the dust! Anyhow, looks like you have a great setup there, and I hope the pedal is working out for you! I really hope you deal with the volume issue as well. :) I'd probably hate to part with that thing once I bought it.
