heehee62
Which mixer should I get? A. Alesis Multi-mix 8 usb fx - $150 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Alesis-MultiMix-8-USB-FX-106070378-i1545212.gc B. Alesis Multi-mix usb 2.0 - $299 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Alesis-MultiMix-8-USB-2-0-8-Channel-Mixer-801473-i1322417.gc C. Allen and Heath Zed-10FX - $299 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Allen---Heath-ZED-10FX-10-Channel-USB-Mixer-with-Effects-H68044-i1627937.gc D. Mackie ProFX8 - $229 http://www.guitarcenter.com/Mackie-ProFX8-Professional-Compact-Mixer-105777676-i1425486.gc The guy at guitar center told me to get the A. Alesis FX cause the rest don't really sound all that different and weren't worth the extra money with some near double the cost. But it looks like it's only 18-bit sound whereas the rest have a lot more I think (can't tell at all with the allen and heath) - doesn't that make a huge dif in sound quality? I'm plugging in a guitar, motif xs8 keyboard, and two ev n/d767a microphones when I play live. Would play one at a time when recording. I'm doing this for fun, not professionally but I've got good equipment so don't want my mixer to make my quality instruments sound like crap (even though I want to keep costs down). FYI, I almost bought the motu hybrid others had recommended earlier in this forum but i've decided that's just too expensive for me so am going to $300 or less now for sure. Thanks a lot everyone. Mark Schmieder
Don't underestimate the value of faders -- even ones without much throw to them. Most knob-only devices are EXTREMELY difficult to control at a usable level of resolution.
