skipclone 1
I ran across this comment-I know many people including myself, would say their ears say different but since the reference is to `definitive research` presumably of a scientifically verifiable nature it may be correct: Here is the site: http://liutaiomottola.com/faqs.htm Q: I want to build/have built a solid body/semi-solid body/hollow body electric guitar with a neck made out of this wood species and the body made out of that species and the neck joint using this construction technique. Do you think it will sound good? A: Yes. It may come as a surprise to a number of musicians that there is no definitive research showing any kind of correlation between wood species or basic construction techniques used in electric guitars and particular tone coloring. My advice here is to pick materials that you like (for whatever reasons) and not to worry so much about how this may affect the sound. Paying attention to the ergonomics and weight of the instrument will be far more fruitful. Same old surprises, brand new cliches- Skipsounds on Soundclick: www.soundclick.com/bands/pagemusic.cfm?bandid=602491
Bluesape
I agree. My LP Studio might sound differently if weighed another 4 or 5 pounds, but it would get a lot more case time! Never a DUH! moment! Well, almost never. OK, OK! Sometimes never!
