That's right -- my Hammond XK-3c was delivered today. w00t!!!

I've been playing with it all night, and it's 1 am now so I better try to get some sleep. But I had to post something here first. :thu:

Congrats Dave  - the 'smell' of unpacking a new 'board out of the box

is definitely on a par with the smell of sitting inside a new car ! ! !

I had to flip a coin to decide between the XK3-C & the XK-1.

I chose the XK-1 purely 'cos of its lighter weight - & I LOVE it.

I'm sure you'll have hours (weeks / months, even years!) of fun with it :D

John.

Nice!

Nothing like that the fresh feel of a new keyboard that has only had one pair of hands play it. My Yamaha MM8 is due in Friday, and I'll probably get no sleep that night. Good thing I have a good pair of headphones.

Although you probably just want to play the keyboard, now is not the time to neglect the person who made the purchase possible.

Mmmm, yeah, good point Adan! She's a hell of a girl. I'll try to think of something specially nice to do for her today...

Dude. Dude! Get your priorities straight! The car is just the facilitator here! The borad is the essence of life! The will of the world! The very breath of the gods blowing down into your soul! Especially when it's an XK3-C!

But seriously, sweet, Dave!

Nice! One of these days I'd love to come over and try it out. :D

Glad you are appreciative of your lovely wife in all these proceedings, too.

Come on over! You are welcome anytime. I have a radio gig on Saturday, but other than that I'm mostly around all weekend.

The smell is permeating my office right now. My Yamaha MM8 came in today. It's already a fast friend. I've never had a non-Hammond that was so performance friendly/performance oriented.

OK. I'm in love

I just plugged the MM8 directly into the K10.

Oh.My.God :rawk:

I called up Vintage'74, and thought I had a Rhodes stage 73 in here. Great tone, and just the right amount of bark.

Wurli Amped is a beautiful thing as well.

I love the Agressive Piano. It'll be perfect for the blues, as it's got a nice mellow tone, but has some nice bite when you romp on it. Very expressive, very usable. The Classic Grand and Warm Grand are very nice and will be just what I need for Country and ballads, and bright piano will cut through on Rock songs.

Split and layer is one button press. The built in patterns will be great for practice, and as a songwriting tool.

The only drawback I've found so far is there's no speed control for the Leslie effect, but since I already have a Hammond, it really doesn't matter to me. The organ sounds, while I won't use them in performance, work great for rehearsal, so I only need to bring one board, the K-10. and a couple cords. Really cuts down on the Schlep factor.

Overall, I'm a happy guy.

Doesn't the mod wheel control Leslie speed (all the way up is fast; all the way down is slow)? If not, can't you assign the mod wheel to work that way, or is this just a limitation of the MM6 itself?

Noah

P.S. Congrats to you both on your new purchases!

The Mod Wheel only adds Vibrato, and I haven't found somewhere to change it. There's actually very little effect control. I guess they figured that with 25 reverb types, 30 chorus options, and 189 other effect choices, you could find what you wanted without tweaking.

Sure, there are some limitations with this board, but considering that it's aimed at the gigging player, I don't have any complaints.
