B3Nut
Todd what kind of finish was on an A-122? Dave I did not know that was your gear. WOW. I saw that page sometime ago. Walnut. The A-122 replaced the A-101 (same "contemporary" furniture style) which was available in brown mahogany, gray mahogany, and translucent black. I've never encountered the latter two finishes. IIRC Harvey Olsen had a translucent black one in his collection. TP --- Todd A. Outkaster
The A-122 was the Italian Provincial Cabinet I think. I just don't see many of them. "Danny, ci manchi a tutti. B3Nut
A-122 was contemporary, like the A-101 which it replaced. They didn't have an Italian provincial A-100 series, but they had the Early American A-143. There's a pic from the brochure upthread... --- Todd A. B3Nut
Yup. C-3 dimensions, but with the speaker baffle and amplifiers. Despite being in the full-depth case, the A-105's speaker baffle still pushes the generator back a bit, so the AO-28 still hangs underneath the generator shelf as in the rest of the A-100 series. Threw me for a loop the first time I popped the back off one. ;-) TP --- Todd A. Outkaster
It's weird because I don't run into an A-105 ever. I wonder if they were special order or just more rare? No Italian Provincial, but they did have the legendary French Provincial ugly stick. This is the only Hammond cabinet that you are required to immediately chop upon purchase! Outkaster
Funny thing is when I see a french provincial they are always in good shape? "Danny, ci manchi a tutti. B3Nut
My cohort and I recently nabbed an A-102 (the French Provincial cabinet a.k.a. L'orgue du Fifi.) It's going into one of the churches he serves as organist. It's ugly but I've seen worse...and it sounds/plays like a million bucks. Most you find in excellent shape, since they've almost always been strictly living-room instruments. TP --- Todd A. Joe Muscara
Maybe if I saw one in person I would think differently about it. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! retrokeys
If you saw one in person, you'd be struck blind by the surpassing hideousness. I doubt they even used French Provincial styling in the French provinces. Matestubb is right. This is the only Hammond that requires a chop regardless of the shape the cabinet is in. The only thing worse I ever saw was the M1 I first had where someone had done a homemade, off-white "antiquing" job on the finish and then painted French provincial designs on the sides. Had to have been done by the "Lee" sisters, Home Lee and Ug Lee. Three days of refinishing set it right and 4 years of club work exorcised the the spirits of evil decoration. MoodyBluesKeys
Back when I was doing service work, I saw a fair number of Hammond (and others) French Provincial styled organs. They were almost universally in homes where ALL the furniture and decorations were of a similar nature (always leading to wonder if I SAT on that chair, would it collapse, or would the lady of the home be really peeved). However, almost every single time, there was not a scratch on ANY piece of furniture in the home. Don't know exactly how they accomplished that with kids, don't ever remember seeing pets in those homes. I always left feeling very glad that I didn't live in that home.
