How about some Popul Vuh, jeez

OK, but you coulda played that card yerself, eh ?

Popul Vuh , it is...so it shall be written; so it shall be done !

Three tracks:

This isn't so scary in itself, until you consider that one of the world's most advanced (for their time & place) societies

so mysteriously just dissolved.

It becomes quite scary, though, when contrasted with

meditation on hedonism.

, however, is prolly more in the spirit of the current season.

Weird that another (pretty run of the mill) band was using that name. I think Florian Fricke's band preceded these Norwegians & was not necessarily unknown.

This, however, is prolly more in the spirit of the current season.

Yeah, the REAL Popul Vuh. Their soundtrack work for Herzog was always pretty good atmospheric stuff. Their later albums, unfortunately, became pretty cheesily new agey.

Well, one thing about the 1st PV vid above is that it explains a bit about the name.

As to the different bands, I don't know but since band names are basically trademarks, it might be that the Northern version is an outgrowth of the German's band, whether with some members or just using the owned name.

Not that many old timers in either the Glen Miller or Count Basie Orchestras, for instance.

[Edit]

After doing some checking, forget the speculation above, since the 2 bands were near-concurrent; see:

The Torture Never Stops

Live Version

Think that's what it was like living next door to Gilles de Rais ?

I'll point out that in the case of some of these tracks the visuals are as disturbing as the music. [c.f the live "Torture" & the Popol Vuh/Nosferatu track above.]
