Danzilla
Check on Gibson's site. http://www.gibson.com/en-us/Support/SerialNumberSearch/ It might not help, if you think yours is a 1974; as this is mostly for 1975 on. Gibson is notorious for having poorly tracked and repetitive serial numbers. My ES 335 is either a 1974 or a 1976; the serial number appears in both lists (forget the websites I checked). Winston Psmith
There's a note in Geo. Gruhn's Vintage Guitars which says that the small block inlay was changed to a dot inlay in 1975 - it also says that the name was changed to L6-S Custom in '75, and went back to the small block inlay(!?!), but with a string-through-body design, instead of a stop tailpiece. Yeah, it sounds confusing to me, too, and I have the book right here in front of me. At any rate, it's an unusual guitar, and Carlos Santana played one at least long enough to be featured in a Gibson ad with it - probably right around the time he did that "Love, Devotion, Surrender" album w/Mahavisnu John McLaughlin.
