Tuggy
Perhaps he is a chemical or electrical engineer and doesn't have the necessary statics background to attack this problem. Putting on my mechanical engineer hat for a second, I would recommend screwing the keyboard to the stand with some hefty #12 zinc-plated sheetmetal screws with locking barbs under the head. But that's just me. Oh, takes one to know one

Joe Muscara
Jarheads of the technical world. You know dammit, I was just about to post how I was enjoying this thread, until I came across this post. "I'm so crazy, I don't know this is impossible! JimboK
Sorry Joe, I was kidding. I just immediately thought of my engineer buddies from college. To be truly forthcoming, the smartest guy I ever knew ran in that same crowd and was also an engineering student. They all had t-shirts with that saying on it however. Funny stuff. And hey, I am a damn banker. Like I should EVER talk! Korg Kronos 2 61, Kronos 1 61, Dave Smith Mopho x4, 1954 Hammond C2, Wurlitzer 200A, Yamaha Motif 6, Casio CDP-100, Alesis Vortex Wireless, too much PA gear! RichieP_MechE
I knew a few engineering folks back in college and I swear everyone one of them lived the mantra: Last year I couldn't spell Engineer, now I IS one! Don't be surprised. Jarheads of the technical world. Must've been civil engineers. (I keed! I keed!)
Edgar Summers
In Soviet Russia, keyboard stand uses you. In modern Russia where capitalism has made some recent inroads the keyboard player sells Vodka from atop his x-stand while playing a strap-on synth. The more expensive stuff is stored on the third tier. "Music should never be harmless." Robbie Robertson
Edgar Summers
Hey! 500 posts in ten years. Oh well it's still a milestone. I've been with you guys longer than my wife. MuzikTeechur
I don't think my X-stand is doing a good job supporting my keyboard. http://img183.imageshack.us/img183/3955/piano2bu9.jpg Muzikteechur is Lonnie, in Kittery, Maine. LOL, Duck is ready - where's the sheep? Anyway, I guess he could use duct (D-U-C-T ) tape to secure his keyboard, since that sh!t fixes everything. I was just going to suggest welding a couple steel straps on the stand vertically to bridge the X. That ought to give it enough strength to prevent buckling. Methinks maybe 1/2" x 2" steel would do the trick. Of course, you must prep and repaint the welds so they don't rust or look too ugly. DRD MEs are EEs who couldn't handle the math!
