Have you ever heard a local band do this tune?

Neither have I. :rawk:

But we were going to try it for the Corporate Battle of the Bands a few years back.

Fun stuff! :thu:

I once saw a cover band do this in a club. It was amazing!

They nailed all the vocals, they had the theatrical element, everything was in place.

So much better than Queen's live show cop out of walking off stage while the recording of the opera section played.

When I was a youngster in NJ there was a group called "Sam the Band" who did this FLAWLESSLY tympani, gong and all...nailed the vocals! Best bar band I ever saw...

I actually used to do it as a solo piano piece in a band I was in back in the 90s. Then I heard a few bands play it live up to the acapella bit.

There's a band in Vegas "Yellow Brick Road" that does a pretty darn decent version of it...they play at a locals' casino, Boulder Station I believe.

Hitting "Play" does NOT constitute live performance. -Me.

Having seen that great Muppetry version of BR, check this out for brilliantness (is that a word???)

I was thinking of starting a new thread on the Muppets, but that would just be plain stupid :taz: !!!!!

I saw Queen the second time they played the song in London and figured they would just sequence all the operetic bits, they did not. They had a full symphony behind them and they played it they way you hear it on the radio. Everyone there was really blown away by just how fantastic it all sounded. I was shocked that the drummer really nailed the highest harmony since he does not have a high talking voice. He sounds like a low tenor rather than high. I believe Queen was much better than many gave them credit for being. They were one of the best bands besides Hendrix I've ever heard live and I saw Hendrix at Woodstock which was his hay day.

I've never seen YBR live, but I've heard of them and spent some time visiting their website (CLONK HERE) and youtube videos. Those dudes are amazing. Not quite "Fab Faux" quality in their authenticity, but pretty damn great nonetheless. They set a high bar for cover bands!

There is a band from Central PA named Hybrid Ice. Back in the late seventies and into the eighties they played a lot of clubs and opened for some big name acts doing Queen, Styx, The Who, lots of great stuff. All five of those guys could sing lead, and they did the best rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody I ever heard. Amazing. They nailed all the vocals and did a great job on the music too. They recorded 3 albums of original songs, and one of the songs they wrote was recorded by Boston. The song is called Magdalene. Great original tune. Great band. They reunited a few years ago and I went to see them at an big outdoor gig they were playing in July. They didn't miss a beat, sounded great. Whats more, they ALL still have their HAIR. (They are all in the fifties now, but still look like freaks!)

Cheers,
