tad sharpe
I'm a retired electronic engineer and plan to redo the control panel for my fender MIM jazz bass. I'm brainstorming for what kind of controls and features it should have and am open for suggestions. so far I want to put in a compressor, and a one button distortion mode. lit controls. I'm having a creative constipation and no other ideas are coming out. Any ideas as to what ya'd love to have in a bass control panel?
5 string Mike
Volume, pan, tone Maybe 3 band EQ. Pernax
Bottle opener. This. Also I'd go for Vol (neck p/u), Vol (bridge p/u), Vol (guitar player), Tone (passive). -P (up to 200 characters) You may use UBBCode in your signature.
picker
Inboard uranium ashtray? Seriously, I'd look for a way to lose the loading effect that happens when both knobs are all the way up. I hate the volume drop it causes. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else.
CLC
A knob that blends in a sub octave would be cool.
_Sweet Willie_
Bottle opener. This. Also I'd go for Vol (neck p/u), Vol (bridge p/u), Vol (guitar player), Tone (passive). -P This. Indeed. Plus a metronome (drummer). Peace. --SW spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk.
_Sweet Willie_
I like the distortion idea. Can you do something tricky where you overdrive some kind of on-board tube?!?! Peace. --SW spreadluv Fanboy? jeremy c
A knob that blends in a sub octave would be cool. I like this one. An onboard tuner would be a nice touch. Let's get really fancy and build a remote that can change the settings on your amp. Free download of my cd!.
Pernax
... An onboard tuner would be a nice touch. ... I remember seeing this on some really strange sci-fi high-end bass made by some strange dentist guy. I tried to look for it and stumbled upon this, which seems rather interesting. jcadmus
I'd go: Master volume, pickup blend, treble, bass I'd like to be able to run my Jazz with both pickups up equally to get that humbucker effect, but still be able to adjust the volume. TimR
Hey welcome back Geoff. I would like to see a three way parametric EQ. Feel the groove internally within your own creativity. - fingertalkin
DJR_Bos
I'd go: Master volume, pickup blend, treble, bass My Franken Jazz is pretty close - Master volume, pickup blend, master tone I like it. And master tone suits me prretty well as II don't use it much anyway. But I didn't hack it, I had it built that way. Just made sense when I was asked how I wanted it wired. Back on topic - Not sure about on board effects. Unless they were somehow modular or swappable. Not sure I'd want to be stuck with any one thing in there 'permanently'. But then I don't really use them anyway. So I'll just back out.....
itu
I'd go through old ideas that are done during the last 50 years: - check Burns' voicings - remember the effects that artists have been using * Pino's octaver * Stanley's many compressors * Jaco's Eventide * Doug Wimbish's signature basses (Cort and Ibanez) and pedalboard - Vigier and WAL were probably the first to use parametric eq * try to find data about the truly exotic Vigier Nautilus preamp * WAL has built-in DI - Alembic preamps - Lightwave microphones - Zon's Hyperbass and its piezos - EBow? - QUAD-like tilting eq, EMG has done something similar - microphone connections * serial, parallel, single coil * Bartolini has quad coil... - MIDI (from Steve Chick to sonuus B2M) - for more strange ideas, check BOND guitar and its electronics (http://guitarcollecting.co.uk/2009/01/05/bond-electraglide/) Have I now opened the Pandora's box?
