Korg M50

I posed this question in another thread, but it was a bit OT, so I thought I'd start a new one. I'm using a Yamaha S90 and am considering adding a Korg M50 88 to the mix as an alternative or maybe replacement. I like the S90 very much and am only considering the M50 as change of pace. Any advise from Yamaha and/or Korg guys?

I had 1 of those..didnt like the weighted action at all, but...I do like the synth sounds, clavs were good too, but acc piano? I sold it and did a gx. I thought that an M50, say the 61 or 73? is it? version would be a great 2nd board. Its a WS, not a dp, so Id keep that in mind. Great 2nd board though.

I would think the S90/Triton LE/Hammond XK-1 combination covers a lot of ground which would make the M50 redundant moreso than a change of pace IMO.

OTOH, if you like the M50 soundset and/or are trying to consolidate the S90/Triton LE combo, it is a worthy consideration. Still, I'd also have to look at other 88-note KBs i.e. S90XS, PC3X, SV-1, CP5, Nord Stage, etc.

Yes this is what the intent was

If your question is to replace Yamaha MO8 with Korg M50 88, then may be, but M50 can't replace S90 adequately.

Cheers,

Ed

In light of the above perhaps what I should do is swap the Le 61 for a rack version and midi to the Yammie.

I would not say that an M50 cannot adequately replace the S90. It really depends on the needs of the end user.

I agree about the action. Great feeling boards. I would consider it maybe replacing the Triton LE in a 61 or 73 version. Or possibly MIDI up a M3M to the S90 and have at it. Having both soundsets (Korg and Yammie) I think is ideal. I would not consider replacing the S90 with the M3-88. Plus having the Hammond in there is like icing on the cake...
