The question... "Who is Jeff Beck?" I've been asked this question many times over the past few months by folks that are in my age group. Granted it has always been me who name drops Jeff Beck into the conversation but I guess I'm somewhat amazed that folks over the age of 40 who are fans of rock music in general have no idea who he is! Call Me Bob
It's probably a "who's doin' the asking?" kind of demographic. I think it would be highly unlikely for almost any musician of that age group to not know who Jeff Beck is, but in all honesty, I don't think he was all that popular with the larger masses. Clapton: check. Page: yes. Beck....not so much. http://www.soundclick.com/fiveincheswide
G. A. Donis
Which is of course a huge universal injustice. I'm a big EC fan but without a doubt Jeff Beck has complete and utter mastery of the guitar. When people ask me who the best guitar player ever is I always answer that question this way: "There is no such thing as best ever. The guitar is a musical insturment and at its best music is an art and art is subjective. But if there were such thing as Best Guitarst Ever his name would be Jeff Beck!" skipclone 1
Well in fairness, how many people live in houses. Now take all those people and ask how many can name three great architects. Many probably couldn`t even name one. That is deplorable, but not confined to any one field. Call Me Bob
Well in fairness, how many people live in houses. Now take all those people and ask how many can name three great architects. Ah, but how many of those architects were actually in The Yardbirds? http://www.soundclick.com/fiveincheswide
Scott Fraser
Well in fairness, how many people live in houses. Now take all those people and ask how many can name three great architects. Many probably couldn`t even name one. That is deplorable, but not confined to any one field. I.M. Pei, Renzo Piano, Richard Meier, Frank Gehry, Louis I Kahn, but then again it's a field I'm interested in & attracted to. Architecture is not really an aspect of popular culture, though, so most people will have no awareness of who the prime movers & shakers are.
