picker
You hate to see it, but all things must pass eventually. It would be nice, though, if that thing wouldn't pass until it's historic significance weren't so important to so many people. Always remember that you are unique. Just like everyone else. simpleman3441
I'm totally up for saving it. My recent treks into the world of recording have only served to strengthen my appreciation for what it is. I would love to purchase it and save its integrity. Who wants to back me financially? Caevan O’Shite
Besides hopefully continuing to be used as a recording studio, some type of educational/apprenticeship program there would be excellent... BillWelcome Home Studios
and Paul said, "Yeah, I hope they work something out..." clearly stating that he could care less. If it is not going to be a recording studio, it should be demolished. Purposing it as some sort of museum or tourist trap, besides not being financially feasable (they want about $150 million Euros, don't they?) would be just a sad, sad thing. The National Historic Register or some such might save it, but again, what would they do with it? It is a huge chunk of ground, prime real estate. If the adjacent land is for sale, forget it, some corporation is going to buy up enough room to build something huge and new. If only the Abbey Road property is for sale, maybe something else could happen. But consider the flap when the original mansion was bought by EMI and turned into a studio? The neighbors must have gone nuts. "I believe that entertainment can aspire to be art, and can become art, but if you set out to make art you're an idiot." p90jr
Maybe U2 will buy it instead of building that skyscraper headquarters in Dublin with the suspended egg studio at the top? http://images.eonline.com/eol_images/Entire_Site/20081031/293.u2tower.103108.jpg

Gawd, that thing's hideous! Is that for real?!? I mean, U2 wants to build that?! In that location, against that skyline?! Guitar Guy
THat's a bit sad, really. I play in a Sixties covers band with Alan Bohling, who played rhythm guitar in "Sons of Fred" in the Sixties and recorded at Abbey Road Studio. Scott Fraser
THat's a bit sad, really. The latest clarification from EMI is that the studio is NOT for sale. They let the rumour fester for at least a week before simply stating that a sale is not intended. Probably the corporate hacks who now own EMI were testing the waters & didn't anticipate the outcry. Caevan O’Shite
Overall, that's good news! Maybe that's why Paul McCartney wasn't particularly excited about it, and said, more or less, "gee, that's too bad, somebody aughtta get something goin' about that", instead of being that "somebody" and doing anything himself... He probably had a better idea than most of what was and wasn't going on there. simpleman3441
Cool. My girl's always on me about going on vacation and that's one place I'd like to see! (won't include that in my conversation with her beforehand though! she'd shut that idea down asap! ) We cannot accelerate the growth of a tree by pulling on its branches. - Ricardo Iznaola
