Mark Schmieder
Many people on this board would like a rare Kurzweil MIDIboard, so I thought it worth alerting to a current CL ad in Emeryville CA for $300 -- appears in top condition. The only other item I would post about in such a manner here, would be the equally rare Oberheim 88-key weighted controllers. I think these are the only ones with Poly Aftertouch. Sven Golly
I think these are the only ones with Poly Aftertouch. Roland A-80 & A-50 also had PolyAT. $300 for a MIDIboard would be a no-brainer pickup, though. Hope someone can take advantage of this.
Moog_Man
There was one in LA a little while ago for $800. If only I had the room.

Mark Schmieder
Believe me, I'd grab this one if it didn't weigh so much and take up so much room. A couple of years ago I would have grabbed it without hesitation, but I have moved away from routing up MIDI at gigs and even in the studio (except for recording and rendering). timwat
I've seen this unit on sale several times on CL. It does appear to be in mint condition, but like Mark, 100lbs. is not my idea of a party - and I have no need for a studio-only controller even if her name is Polly Aftertouch. .. analogholic
Roland A-80 & A-50 also had PolyAT. Yeah, in "theory" they have... on my A-80 it´s not working at all and just to use channel AT, you have to break you wrists Even if you mod it with a resistor fix, it´s apparently still too heavy. A very good board except for aftertouch... All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident. Marzzz
I think these are the only ones with Poly Aftertouch. Roland A-80 & A-50 also had PolyAT. Barely- but pretty much impossible to play (even with the Roland mod).
The Real MC
The very best MIDIBoards say made in japan on the rear badge. Not only do they have the latest v3.0 OS, but the keybed has a different action (made by Hammond Suzuki) that feels positively wonderful to a piano player. Barely- but pretty much impossible to play (even with the Roland mod). Guess it's just another example of me being really lucky, because my modded A-80 was just fine to play. I will say that my unmodded A-50 is practically unusable for PolyAT... but is otherwise a wonderful board.
Marzzz
I had an A-80 for nearly ten years, and tried every which way to get it to be playable. Other than the resistor switch, did you do anything else to yours? I sold my A-80 about 8 years ago when I found one of the later MIDIBoards (mint OS 3.0, Suzuki action), and to me there was no comparison.
Sven Golly
I had an A-80 for nearly ten years, and tried every which way to get it to be playable. Other than the resistor switch, did you do anything else to yours? I still have my A-80 and my A-50, although they stay at home these days. To be honest, I don't know what else might have been done to it; I gave it to the guys I knew at Roland Canada at the time, and they took care of it for me. I wonder if anyone I knew back then is still around (this was 1991). I sold my A-80 about 8 years ago when I found one of the later MIDIBoards (mint OS 3.0, Suzuki action), and to me there was no comparison. While I've never done a direct A/B comparison, I know that the 2 MIDIBoards I've played in the past were both gorgeous units in terms of touch; I never had to (nor had the opportunity to) program the Kurz, so I'm not sure how much I'd enjoy that in relation to the ease of the Rolands... but if I found one here in T.O. for $350, it would definitely be finding its way into my home studio. MoodyBluesKeys
Even though I can't say I NEED it, if it were within driving distance on the East Coast to eastern NC, I'd be adding it as a controller. I've never played one, but I used to have a Baldwin model 5 Church Organ - it had a pair of keyboards that were made with wood and felt - same kind of setup as a grand piano. Best feeling keyboard I ever had, especially after I went through and replaced worn out punchings and felts.
