Sean Bugg
Hello everybody. I have search for a while and can't seem to find what I am looking for. I have a Roland XP-60 that will power up but has no sound coming out. The repair guy said that it will need a new main board and the price was like $500. Does anybody know how to maybe fix this cheaper. I'm not going to spend $500to fix this. I will just pitch it first. Thanks in advance. kanker.
Heck, I'd sell you my XP-80 for that... A ROMpler is just a polyphonic turntable.
mcgoo
you might check with Roland directly. This probably isn't the case, but early XP-80's actually had a flaw in their mainboards that they were replacing for free. They probably got that sorted out by the time the XP-60's came out, but it'd be worth calling them. Sean Bugg
That's is too much money. I was hoping someone had the same problem and could tell me where to look to fix it myself. I will call Roland and see if they will do anything for me. Threadslayer
This may or may not be helpful, but years ago I had a Roland Jupiter 4 which had just come out at that time, and it quit on me. None of the experts could fix it. So, having nothing to lose, I opened up the case and wiggled and reseated a few connectors, and it popped up and ran great for years. It's worth a try. Also look for obvious things like blown fuses, bad solder joints etc. Whenever you find yourself on the side of the majority, it is time to pause and reflect. -Mark Twain
Sean Bugg
That is kinda what I had in mind, thanks. I was just hoping someone might know where to start looking. Sean Bugg
I took it apart and saw nothing that looked "bad". Pluged it in and found that it will send midi so the keys are working and sending midi. The sequencer is working also, just no damn sound. I think I will look for another repairman. BTW haven't talked to Roland yet. Bill H.
Consider yourself fortunate that you got a free estimate. The best Roland tech in my area charges $60 just to open it up and tell you what's wrong. Here's what I did when I was in the same situation as you are now. Rather than have extensive work done on my worn out XP-60, I grabbed a lightly used XP-80 off the local CL for $350 a couple of years ago. If you have used your XP-60 much at all, the front panel switches are probably getting a little intermittent and the display a little dim. You'll have a better keyboard if you hunt down a used one that's in better shape - and you'll save yourself some money too. XP's are plentiful used. Sean Bugg
A little update. I had a repair man look at it. He found the problem. He fixed the problem and the cost........ $120.00!!!! NOT $500 for a new main board. This guy is Great!!!! Now I will get refreshed on it to see if I want to keep it or not. Might be up for sale or I might keep it. What would be a fair price do you guys think?
